Search Engine Optimization - SEO Basics

In order to make use of SEO, you need to understand it better. And in order to do that, you need to know a few basic terms commonly used in SEO.

Search engines - a program designed to search for information on the World Wide Web

World Wide Web - an application running on the internet which consists of interconnected documents and other information resources

Internet - a series of interconnected computer networks that contains the World Wide Web

Confusing? To simplify, a group of computers connected to each other comprises a computer network. These computer networks when connected globally, becomes the internet. The World Wide Web on the other hand is the application running on these interconnected computer networks. Contained on this application is a vast resource of documents and information. Because of the huge amount of information contained in the web, search engines were created to make searching and retrieving for information easier.

But how do search engines actually work? How can it retrieve specific information from a resource as vast the World Wide Web, estimated to contain 21.28 billion pages as of this writing?

To understand better, we need to know the following:

Web Crawling - web crawling is done by a computer program called a web crawler which goes through the World Wide Web methodically and automatically. Other names given to web crawlers are: spiders, robots (bots), automatic indexers, ants, and worms. Think of web crawling as systematically reading through everything stored in the web.

Indexing - once a page in the web is crawled by spiders, it will be indexed and data collected and parsed from that page is stored in an index database.

Search Query - this is what users enter into search engines' search box to search for certain information

Search engines typically work in this manner. The World Wide Web is crawled, indexed, and the data collected stored in a database. Then, when users enter a query into the search engine, the engine would search its index for web pages that best matches the search criteria provided by the user. It then provides a listing of these matches, known as the search results. Search results provided contain a short summary of the page, the document's title, and some part of the document's text.

A search engine's reliability and authority depends on its ability to give the user results which is relevant to the user's search or query. A business' online visibility and profitability on the other hand depends on ranking high on search results. SEO works on both ends of the field. Making web pages appear on relevant searches, and making those web pages rank high in search engines. Search engines rank web pages differently, varying from one engine to another. While all search engines' algorithms are kept secret (to curb attempts to manipulate it), there are some standards all search engines stick to when ranking web pages according to its relevance on a given topic, keyword, or search query.

The role of SEO in increasing online profits

As mentioned in the first article, SEO does and is capable of increasing online profits. SEO, when used correctly, can and will bring more traffic to a website. As discussed earlier, SEO is just another form of advertising, albeit one that isn't intrusive, and works in reverse of most targeted advertising. Since SEO is just another form of advertising, it will of course net results that all advertising gives; which is to bring in more customers or potential customers.

While an increase in traffic means the consuming public is now aware of your site's existence, that doesn't automatically translate into immediate profit. Remember that hooking audiences in is just part of the sales process. You still need to convert those visitors into paying customers or consumers of your product or services. However, as a rule of thumb, attracting more visitors to your website will of course mean a larger number of possible customers. And this is exactly the role that SEO performs - to bring more traffic to your site.

Starting SEO from scratch

To start with your website's optimization, you first need to identify the most common keywords being used by searchers to look for products and services related to your business.

For example, as a furniture seller, you will need to identify what keywords searchers use to look for products and services related to furniture. A search in Google will turn up the following keywords most commonly used for searches with the word "furniture."

bedroom furniture, home furniture, modern furniture, office furniture, furniture design wood furniture, indian furniture, ikea.

A search in Yahoo on the other hand will turn up the following keywords:

ashley furniture, furniture stores, value city furniture, office furniture, ikea furniture, bedroom furniture, patio furniture, thomasville furniture, wickes furniture, bassett furniture.

Now, let's say your store's name is Furniture World and your website address: furnitureworld.com

In addition to conducting keyword research for the word "furniture," you will also have to conduct a separate keyword research for the words "furniture world" as well as the derivation furnitureworld. Also, in order to make your website copy rank higher in search engines and also be more readable for visitors, you will want to conduct keyword research on words related or similar to "furniture." A look into a thesaurus will net you these words as synonyms to the word "furniture."

appliance, bed, bookcase, cabinet, chair, chest, couch, counter, cupboard, desk, dresser, equipment, furnishing, sofa, stool, table, wardrobe

So, aside from your website copy containing keywords or key phrases with the word "furniture," you will also need to insert an occasional synonym for furniture. This is to avoid keyword stuffing, which as will be mentioned later on, is heavily frowned upon by most search engine algorithms, and will most likely result in your website getting banned or being stricken from a search engine's index.

Once you have determined which exact keywords and phrases are heavily used for "furniture" searches, you can start altering your website copy so that it contains those keywords or key phrases you have identified.

All About SEO Secrets for Best SEO Google Site Optimization

When it comes to learning about SEO, a secret can be something intentionally kept classified. Yet, some secrets comprise things which you only learn by surprise. Further, valuable information remains secretive when you simply have not yet accessed the correct channels.

Whether this remains a case of intentional hush-hush or merely circumstantial mystery, the bottom line is that there are numerous things you may not already know about site-optimization.

The "gurus" continue to tell you that you can make money online in thousands of ways. Yet, your true-life experience probably sings a slightly different tune.

Search engine optimization reflects a highly technical matter with about a gazillion factors which also affect your online outcome. Website or page promotional systems need to implement approximately 40 or more pertinent tweaks in order to surpass today's fierce competition for keyword phrases.

In more about SEO developments, updates by Google plus the recent changes to the Panda system have left even some of the more solid online entrepreneurs with additional SEO work to complete. Yet, even without such additional adversity, the goal to establish your particular pages in the top 10 Google listings reflects a monumental task.

Consider this. It is not so much about merely having your page appear on the leading search engine listings, but your content, message, and visual appearance much exist in a way which captures the hearts and minds of viewers.

This latter set of circumstances provides likely grounds for the failure of thousands of online businesses. There are factors not to be taken lightly, and the list is HUGE.

For example:

-- Is mutual or two-way linking still worth its salt in back linking strategy?

-- How do you avoid basic back link blunders without specialized SEO education or expert guidance?

-- What is the true essence of link wheels and how can you maximize their potential powers?

Nearly everything plus almost ANYTHING you can learn about SEO principles can work to your advantage. The average online marketing professional or website owner may try to sidestep the "little" things which comprise website search engine analysis.

However, to avoid the acquisition of top-notch education in regard to site optimization can be your biggest mistake. SEO tips can come to you in almost all shapes and sizes; thus, it is often hard to know which of these seemingly small issues can make or break your Internet income generation efforts.

A great suggestion is to practice safety first. Yet, in this line of work (that is, as an online entrepreneur), the type of security deemed to be of utmost importance remains a rather complex matter.

For instance, your best SEO mix should be one which incorporates:

-- An extremely short, keyword-rich headline tag which varies appropriately for each page of your site...

-- The top FIVE Google-verified keyword phrases for your niche which ALSO demonstrate high-buyer interest...

-- Beautifully executed examples of page content properly laden with semantic phrases plus sequentially relevant heading tags.

Now, about SEO ongoing developments, there is a new informational source currently available which elaborates upon "inside" details for you with easy-to-read, plus highly helpful assistance.

Search Engine Optimization Secrets - Making the Most of Keywords

A lot of people will tell you that content is king, and that you need to have keyword optimized, relevant content on your site for good search engine optimization. However, this is just one part of how you can use keywords for SEO. One of the best kept search engine optimization secrets is that keywords and phrases belong everywhere on your site.

Your keyword optimization should begin before you ever publish your website to the internet. Your domain name or URL should have your primary keyword or phrase within it. If you operate only in one location, it can be very helpful to treat that location as another primary keyword and include it in your domain name as well. For example, a divorce attorney in Kansas City might have the domain name of divorce-now-kc.net, or something similar.

The next place to use your keywords is in your file names, including your pictures and scripts. You should also use your keywords in your metatags, although this is another current misconception among new marketers. The keywords metatag used to be given high priority in seo, and there are still many sites on the web that lead you to this belief.

This is another of the biggest kept search engine optimization secrets-keyword metatags do you more harm than good. The search engines ignore them for the most part, and your competitors can view the html source of your website and see what keywords you are targeting. Once you have completed your initial search engine optimization, you can use keywords throughout your content and marketing for optimal results.

High Search Engine Ranking Optimization - 95% Online Money Makers' Best-Kept SEO Secrets

Every internet entrepreneur needs to know the best ways to get high search engine ranking optimization for their website. Everyone who creates a blog, including teenagers, mothers, and internet marketers hope for high amount of traffic.

To date, there are so many websites. Probably millions or billions of websites on the internet. So how can you build a site and stand out among all these websites? High search engine ranking optimization helps a web site to be found by visitors who are interested.

How does SEO work? There are 2 points to who it works, and these 2 points are on page SEO and off page SEO.

Point #1 - On Page Search Engine Optimization

This refers to the SEO methods used when your web site is already launched and is now live on the internet. Search engines like Google will want to know what your web site is all about so that they will direct it to the suitable visitors.

When the search engines visit your website, they take a look at the textual content and the HTML code as a way to resolve what every web page of your website is about. To get high search engine ranking optimization, you will want to make use of keywords when adding pages to your site. Two things you should learn is how you can use meta data and the layout of your site.

Point #2 - Off Page Search Engine Optimization

The way that the search engines find your web site in the first place is through hyperlinks of your website address on other sites that they've already know about. Search engines have bots that are always crawling the web and are on the lookout for newly launched sites or newly established pages on websites, so as to index the information of the website.

One of the ways that these search engines use to determine if a website is important is by the total number of inbound hyperlinks that it has. Off page SEO ensures that you get a high search engine ranking optimization. Therefore, i suggest that you concentrate mainly on constructing hyperlinks to your web site from other sites.

There are lots of ways do off page SEO. I'll be honest; most of these are quite time-consuming, but worth every bit of effort.

Here are a variety of off page SEO techniques;

Technique #1 - Submit To Article Directories

Write articles together with a link to your site, and submit these articles to hundreds of article directories. Most importantly, remember to include links of your site to the articles.

Technique #2 - Use Free Sites

Create pages with hyperlinks to your website. You can utilize free sites. For instance, Blogger, Squidoo, Hubpages, etc.

Technique #3 - Leave Comments

Leave comments onto sites with "comments" sections. For instance, blogs and Squidoo lenses. Do note that the contents you put onto theses sites must be related to the subject materials of that of your website's.

Technique #4 - Social Media

Include your links of your websites onto social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter.

Technique #5 - 'Bookmark' Your Websites

Make sure to bookmark your web site onto sites like Digg. These are sites where people enter the details or URLs of internet sites that they like or find are helpful.

Technique #6 - Submit Your Site's RSS Feeds

If you've got blogs and sites that have RSS fees, make sure that you submit them to RSS aggregators.

If all of these sound too advanced, you might need to think about hiring a SEO specialist to do it for you. There are various SEO companies that provides these services. If you have your own a commercial website, this may be worthwhile and can be very profitable if your site gets high search engine ranking optimization.

Selecting the Best SEO Company for Search Engine Optimization

Many webmaster have experienced the futility of trying the search engine optimization as a do it yourself project. Despite all the hard works and efforts they have put in the results have not been as nice as desired by them. Opting for the services of a proficient SEO company could be the solution to their problems.

Importance of Search Engine Optimization

Either for website promotion or business promotion one requires that they rank prominently on the first result page of leading search engines like the Google, MSN, Yahoo, ASK, and others. In the background of the growing competition in the commercial world the task may not be easy for any webmaster without opting for some professional SEO services.

Benefits of Hiring SEO Company

Several benefits result by hiring a professional and experienced SEO company. Some of the benefits are -

• Webmasters are spared of the tensions of achieving search engine optimization on their own.

• With their expertise and experience in the trade, the service provider company can make the process very easy and convenient.

• Moreover the search engine optimization process will be commensurate with the current market trends that the professional and reliable companies will be able to transform into practice.

Word of Caution

One precaution that the webmaster should take in selecting the best SEO company and obtaining the SEO services is not to walk into the traps lead by unscrupulous traders on the web. A little research and study on the background of various companies offering the services will help the webmaster or entrepreneur select the right one for their purpose.

Factors for Consideration

Major factors for consideration in the selection of the effective SEO company for SEO services are-

• Any company guaranteeing number one position should be doubtful. A company serious about its job will offer only higher ranking.

• Recommendations from friends and associates should be valued.

• Discussion in web forums will help select the reputable company by the webmaster.

• Before selecting the company one should ask for the sites they have optimized.

Last but not the least the site offering SEO services should understand about automated submissions and SEO tricks.

More: Result is that the submitting sites get enough quality back links to give them valuable ranking on the result pages of Google and other search engines.

Two other effective methods are keyword research and optimization on page as well as off page that generates the same results.

Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks

Search Engine Optimization, popularly known as SEO these days, is the process of improving your website so that it achieves a higher ranking in a search engine search result. It is one of the most practical and effective marketing strategies now. Knowing the tips and tricks of this aspect of internet technology can help you and your business succeed. The following are some useful tips.

Place navigational links in all web pages. You should allow a search engine to locate all your pages. Search engines look for html link tags. Therefore you should refrain from placing flash or JavaScript navigation links or images on your site.

Provide relevant content. Put as many appropriate and relevant contents as you can in order to have a higher chance at ranking better. People who search for products on a website do price comparisons and research first. So therefore you should include features and contents that will attract the searcher. Once the searcher is impressed, he/she will stick to your website and eventually buy your product.

Place keywords in your text. To improve your web site, you should employ keywords that are related to your field in all your text contents. This will enable search engine spiders to detect them thus giving your website a good chance at ranking higher. However you must not place excessive keywords. Doing so will just be a waste. What's important therefore is consistency and balance in using keywords.

Employ related words and phrases in Meta tags, titles, and headers. This will result in an extensive and consistent range of keywords in your website. More than any other aspect in your website, search engines give a lot of weight on page titles, text, and header meta tags.

Maintain a consistent order or sequence of your keywords. Shifting to another order or sequence of a term or phrase may affect the consistency and balance of your website and may lower your rank in a search engine.

Employ keywords in your file names. Always remember that this is a vital key also in achieving a higher rank in the search results. Use underscore between keywords. This will have a better chance of being detected by search engines. The keywords should best describe the contents of your webpage.

Use keywords in your links. In placing links in your website, use keywords that best describe the webpage link. This will enable the advanced search engines to detect the content of the link.

Submit your website to relevant and widely used sources. Yahoo.com, Zeal.com, and DMOZ.org are some of the most popular manually edited internet directories and are frequently used by widely known search engines such as AltaVista, LookSmart, Google, and Yahoo. Remember also to follow the submission rules of these internet directories to avoid being rejected.

Search engine optimization is the new trend in sales and marketing these days. Following the tricks and tips mentioned will make your website a top business or product site. Gone are the days when we had to spend big amounts on marketing and promoting our products.

Five Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Tips and Tricks

Google is "Yellow Pages on Steroids". Several businesses that used to be tiny are now 10 times bigger because of Google. Some of them hired SEO firms and others ranked their own websites. Some people even ranked first by accident. They created a website a long time ago, published some great information and time did the rest of the work.

Today I will share 5 SEO secrets that we use with our clients from all over the world. These secrets won't rank you first by themselves; there is a lot more that you need to do, but these tips will definitely make a huge difference.

Forget About Meta Keywords and Submitting Your Site to Google

2002 is long gone; rules have changed. Meta keywords won't help you at all and you don't need to submit your website to Google; they will find it.

Avoid Over-Optimization

If your idea of SEO is writing a page and putting your keyword in it 50 times, forget it. If all the links pointing to your site have the same anchor text, that will affect you too. Make your content and backlinks look natural. Write for your visitors, not the search engines. A great website with outstanding information will get a lot more links than an over-optimized site.

Target Several Keywords on One Page

Choose a main keyword and then think of 5-10 keyword modifiers. For example, if your main keyword is "cowhide rugs", add words before and after to go after secondary keywords as well. Some of these keywords could be "buy cowhide rugs", "cowhide rugs store", "black cowhide rugs", etc. Notice that all these keywords have the main keyword in them.

Get Links from Social Media Sites

The advantage of social media sites is that most of them have a lot of authority and trust. Links from these sites will be worth a lot. On the downside, anybody can get links from these social media sites, but they can still help you a lot.

Some of these sites are Squidoo, HubPages, NewsVine, BizHeat, KillerStartups and Twitter (links in the bio section aren't "nofollow"). SEOmoz has, in my opinion, the best list of social media sites you can easily get links from. You can find it here: http://www.seomoz.org/social-directory

Don't Overlook the Holy Grail of Link Sources

I can't believe how many people skip this step. The best place to start looking for links is people that you know and you have relationships with. We all have friends and relatives with blogs or websites. I am sure that your company has vendors; ask these people to link to you as their client. Ask your clients to link to you. Ask the organizations you belong to. How about the chamber of commerce in your city? How about local universities, libraries and community colleges?

Here's something to keep in mind: people love linking to great content. They don't link to commercial sites as much. So create great content and become THE place people want to go to find information about the kind of product you sell. If your information is useful, many people in your industry will love to list you on their lists of useful resources.

Looking for good and smart ways to optimize your website? Well, let me tell you this first there are no real tricks of the trade. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) uses steps in order to rank high in the search engines. Lets define what SEO is. It is the process of readying a website to be listed well in search engines. Several factors are involved in making a site search engine friendly including the design and content of the site. Search Engine Optimization Tricks and Tips uses many steps to rank high.

Here is a small list:

A good keyword page title

H1 Header

Good links

Great content

This partial list is only for the website. I have not even touched the area to get traffic to the site. Lets put it this way, it takes work. If you want to succeed you must do the steps. When I was building my first website I ran into some trouble. Because I didn't understand how SEO worked my site was not getting traffic. I thought I can skip the part of sending traffic and just rely on the flashy website. Boy, was I wrong. You need to do all the steps Let me tell you what you need to optimize your site properly. When someone lands on your site you want that person to click on one or many links you have, right?

Well here are techniques that should always to be followed.

Writing effective headlines

Proper use of text links

Call-to-action phrases

Solo links

In writing effective headlines you should try to have three components.

Ask a question,

Provide doubt or uncertainty,

Provide a benefit.

Proper use of text links is something marketers miss or don't do right. First off do not use too many links as it will make your site look cheap and unprofessional. Second add text links on keywords that are highly important to the main idea of the paragraph. And third, add text links on "call-to-action". Call to action phrases have the best click-through rates and grab your audience to act on what you say. Solo links are very strong as they stick out by themselves. Example would be "click here to receive the free gift" This statement would be between paragraphs.

Pushing traffic to your website means you need to send people there. How is that done? With article marketing. This is another way of SEO. By writing articles and submitting them to article directories you will have people reading what you wrote and clicking to your site. By doing this the search engines see this and in turn start ranking not only the site but also your articles. Pretty cool.

Going through these steps is very crucial in optimizing your website. It does take hard work. But you will reap the benefits. Everything will fall into place once it will be done the right way. Search Engine Optimization Tricks and Tips need to follow a series of steps, from a good title with a proper header, good links and very good content. You definitely need a great call-to-action phrase and solo links to help rank high.

Search Engine Optimization For Web Site Traffic - Do Search Engines Punish You For SEO Tricks

There has been some speculation and concern recently within the Internet marketing community about Google's fondness, or lack of fondness, for search engine optimization tricks. Before we go any further, it should be noted that there are many search engine optimization experts that use unscrupulous methods to get search engine rank to drive website traffic their way. Google is constantly on the defense against the search engine optimization tricks that essentially spam search engines. Anyone that thinks that Google and search engines are completely ignorant to these practices for search engine optimization are fooling themselves. Search engines are constantly on the lookout for all signs of search engine optimization. Even white hat methods. But do they downgrade websites that they believe have been SEO'd? It's not entirely out of the question.

Chances are that you've thought all along that using keyword phrases in all the right places brings a greater presence in searches, leading to more website traffic and a greater chance for online success. Think again. Things have changed from the early days of search engine optimization. Tricks that were once met with prominent search engine rank, seemingly working liking a charm when it came to bringing in greater website traffic, are now viewed as "red flags" with search engines. Even clean strategically placed search engine optimization factors may set off Google warnings of spam.

Even the most fundamental locations to optimize keywords, spots we were all advised at one time to begin our search engine optimization, like the domain name, file name, Meta description tag, title tag, headline tags, opening sentence, etc. may now be viewed as spam by Google. This has frustrated many Internet marketers who specialized in search engine optimization for rank and website traffic.

Perhaps the best advice for any SEO marketer is to not be obvious with their methods. Some people swear by their own personal search engine optimization formulas where their domain names and file names are keyword-rich, every heading tag utilizes keyword phrases, or their three opening sentences contain eight uses of a particular keyword or keyword phrase, reading awkwardly in the process. You want to write good copy that reads naturally. Search engines don't like unnatural looking copy that reads poorly and is obviously influenced by the desire for search engine optimization for website traffic.

Don't be afraid of utilizing SEO as part of your method to orchestrate website traffic. Just understand that the landscape is constantly changing with search engines modifying their formulas and guidelines to fight against spammers.

Why Is Effective SEO Website Optimization So Difficult

There are many ways business owners and marketers can effectively optimize their website's search engine rankings in today's highly competitive online world. But the truth is that the vast wealth of possibilities does not make it any simpler to see natural SEO traffic results to a new comer or a company attempting to do this work on their own.

Gaining organic rankings is something that every company can find valuable, no matter the market or niche they are in. When you can maintain credible first page and #1 spots on highly competitive and converting keywords, you have a clear advantage against your competition. While others are forced to pay per click via ads, you're able to get better traffic, leads, and sales under the same keywords at absolutely no cost. This is the reason SEO companies have been growing rapidly as the need for professional search engine marketing continues to rise.

But what is it that makes effective SEO website optimization so difficult? Why do we see time and time again businesses fail to receive any rankings at all, let alone maintain them under competitive search terms? Let's take a look.

1. Competition Is Fierce

The most obvious reason that SEO ranking is difficult to achieve is because of the high level of competition all businesses face in today's world. Everyone is competing for the same sales within a market and the more companies out there, the harder it is to stand out from the rest.

2. Lack Of Experience

Proper search engine optimization is even time staking and difficult when performed by true SEO experts and typically takes 2-4 months even when done by the most seasoned professionals. This begins to make it clear why SEO company services are so highly sought after.

3. Poor Keyword Selection

One of the most critical mistakes made by business owners trying to do natural SEO on their own is the actual keywords they attempt to go after and rank highly for. It is a huge mistake for companies to go right away for the more broad and highly searched terms within their niche. The competition is too high and on top of that some of the keywords do not even lead directly to conversions. Go after more specific longer tail keywords or product name brands in the beginning to see faster results.

Organic (Natural) Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

If you're hoping that I'll cover the magic formula to guarantee yourself the #1 top placement on search engines here, you can stop reading now. I can't. I don't know it. Neither does anybody else, by the way. And even if they did, they wouldn't within 30 days.

Here's the deal, folks. Search engines are a moving target. They HAVE to be. Not only does technology change like clockwork, but unscrupulous folks constantly try to "game" the system and rig things to get ahead. "All is fair in love and war," right? Or you can take the Machiavellian approach that "the end justifies the means." The whole point, though, of a NATURAL ranking (also called an "organic ranking") is that Websites achieve their position based on the merit of their content relevant to what people are searching for, rather than a ranking that is attained by artificially playing an angle to gain an advantage.

As a result, search engines handle their criteria (their "search engine algorithms") in three ways. First, they keep them super-double-top-secret. Second, they continually make them smarter, becoming more discriminating and countering the antics of people who try to play them. Third, when cute little tactics are employed by people to gain unfair advantage, the search engines penalize those gimmicks when the algorithms are updated. A few tricksters may still accomplish their goals periodically, but overall, search engine companies are VERY focused on the integrity of providing untainted results.

The difference between "tactics" and "strategy" is quite simple and very important in working with search engines. Tactics are short-term efforts intended to react or respond to the immediate here-and-now to achieve quick results. In the SEO world, they can be a house of cards. Strategy, on the other hand, is a long term plan the employs proven techniques and generally proactive methods to steadily move forward in achieving your goal: top placement on the major search engines.

When you are seeking a qualified SEO professional (someone who studies the search engine TRENDS and that understands the big picture), ask about their strategies. If what you hear appears to be "special ways to take advantage of loopholes" rather than a well-formulated, long-term plan, then you are likely dealing with a tactician rather than a strategist. If the tacticians plan fails, the cost is YOURS. In other words, they may be clever enough to fool the system for a month or two, but eventually when their methods catch up with them, your Website goes "bye-bye" from the search engine listings. Um... oh by the way, there's usually some clause in your SEO Contract that says "no guarantee, no refund." It's up to YOU to be the smart one and not get conned by someone who is boastfully "smarter than the average bear." They're either fooling the search engines (temporarily), or they're fooling you. Either way, they get paid.

Look for the SEO person who is willing to explain what they do. Unless you have studied the SEO process and have kept up on all of the latest trends (in other words, it's part of what you do for a living), you would be crazy to try optimizing your site yourself. You would likely fall prey to some of the "gotchas" that search engine algorithms are programmed to detect, or you would miss the mark altogether. Yet a number of SEO people seem afraid to "share the secrets of the trade" because they either 1) feel that you'll do things yourself and they won't earn your business, or 2) they're trying to protect you from doing something damaging to your own site. One reason is obviously more noble than the other.

Regardless, I think it is important that an SEO consultant educates their clients. I look at it this way: when I go to the doctor, I like to know what he (or she) is going to do to me. If he pulls out a rubber glove or a needle, it's nice to know what it's all about BEFORE anything happens... and it's certainly not something that I would endeavor to try to do on my own. In a not-so-vivid kind of way, I see Website and SEO work in a similar fashion. Just as I'm not trying to put an M.D. after my name when I expect the doctor to explain a procedure to me, your Website solution provider shouldn't try to make an expert out of you by giving you the basics of how they do business. They should offer the information in simple, explainable terms. If they don't, ask. It won't hurt, I promise.

Black Hat is Back 2 - the Evil and Dark Side of Search Engine Optimization

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the ultimate goal as a webmaster is to appear higher up in the search engine results pages as possible. Knowing Google is so intelligent, what are the chances that an average web marketer can appear high in the search engine results? Is there a way to allow yourself an advantage over others that aren't informed? After studying some underground methods outlined by Howie Schwartz in his Black Hat is Back 2 video series, I've discovered some very sinister things...

The solution to this million dollar question ultimately depends on what market you are trying to target - of course the more competition within market, the greater amount of keyword phrases have already been dominated by your competition and the harder it will be to out-position those pre-existing pages.

Having said that, the search engines are definitely not perfect. How many times have you searched for a term and found the first group of results are totally garbage? - and out of these first 10 results, perhaps only 1 or 2 are actually relevant to what you're looking for. Dang annoying to say the least when you're constantly hammering on the back button (by the way, Google actually takes this into consideration now - the bounce rate of a website can actually be calculated based on how fast someone clicks the back button after arriving on your site.)

Logic would then dictate, if you are serving up relevant information that is highly related to the search phrase your visitor is looking for, then your "bounce rate" should obviously be less

Now despite all the above-board or "white hat" methods around, there have been some sneaky webmasters who have achieved high rankings in the search engines using evil tactics which are known as "spamdexing" - or Black Hat SEO If you are able to artificially increase your positioning in the SERPS by implementing techniques which are not considered above-board, then you are utilizing some sort of Black Hat SEO method - even if it's as innocent as creating an inbound link from another site that you own. The skill to outrank OTHER sites that are actually more related for a particular keyword, could this be regarded as sneaky and evil? Absolutely. Are there lots of people doing it? Absolutely! Black Hat is Back 2 by Howie Schwartz is a step-by-step guide on some of the most evil and tricky methods.

How White Hat SEO Optimization Can Produce You Top Rankings

There is no doubt that White Hat SEO can produce you top rankings. The reason behind is very simple as these provide search engines with authentic data. This data is caught by search engines without any deception. That is why they provide an entrepreneur with the comfort of legitimacy which is hard to overlook. However a Black Hat SEO will seldom care about that and will indulge into things that are made for search engines only and not for humans. But a White Hat SEO will produce something which is well scripted to get a good web page ranking.

A sudden divide has ruptured the SEO industry. This divide has been caused by a separatist movement between Black Hat and White Hat. The difference between the two is very simple. Black Hat is something that uses unauthorized means of search engine optimization. White Hat SEO on the other hand makes use of genuine ways of search engine optimization for authenticity.

Now the question that arises out of this scenario is that how White Hat SEO optimization can produce you top rankings? The first thing that a proper SEO firm will in this regard is create a good and easy website. What this actually means is that a reliable SEO firm will produce a website which is easy to navigate. This in turn will increase web traffic and help in attracting more visitors. That is why they construct a website that can draw the attention search engine crawlers.

Then a White Hat SEO also takes care of a website being SEO friendly. Hence the content needs to be extremely well fabricated of any website. They will make sure that the content of website is fresh and accurate. It will have all the hot niches and proper keywords to spin a magic. This will be done by keeping the target audience and subject matter of a web page intact. They will never compromise quality of content or nay other services that is required to get a website up the ladder.

Again a White Hat SEO will also satisfy the needs of an RSS feed to make the content visible without venturing the homepage. Then they will also work on things like site maps, feedback forms and making larger icons all of which help in attracting more and more viewers. They will assist a big or small business house with blogs and all the details that is possible to be done. The will follow all the rules and get a web page in the top ranks with accuracy.

Overall it can be said that web pages are not scrutinized by search engines ad visitors but also by experts from the industry. So a SEO firm needs to treat a website with utmost care. They need to use appropriate methods to get top rankings amidst search engines. It is always better to use dependable measures to do so in comparison to Black Hat SEO or any other such unreliable techniques.

Things to Avoid in Search Engine Optimization - Black Hat Methods

A few search marketers use unfair methods or Black-Hat methods to get to the top of the search engine rankings. However Black hat Techniques are sure to make you act in haste and repent in leisure

In this article I will be highlighting a few techniques to Optimize your website ethically without using Unfair or Black Hat Optimization Techniques to get good rankings in the organic search engines.

So what exactly is Black Hat SEO ?

Black Hat SEO refers to all those optimization activities that violate the basic search engine guidelines. Black hat methods are adapted to manipulate the Search Engine Result Pages and get to the top of the search engines as soon as possible and with minimal efforts.

If Black Hat gets result, then what's the harm ?

It's true that some black hat methods will get you desired results. The only problem with adapting black hat methods is that the results are temporary and causes major damage to the web site. There is something known as the New Site Boost which every new website gets in the search engine result pages. If black hat methods are applied to such new sites, they may come up pretty well in the search engines and may out pass major players. But that's only temporary, that site will soon start falling in the Search Engine Result Pages and gradually vanish from the search engines.

Once search engines figure out that a site has adapted black hat methods to manipulate the rankings, they will not only penalize the site but might also ban them from the search engines result pages, which means that you will no longer be seen in the search engines even if you search with your domain name.

What are black hat methods?

The following is the list of some commonly used black hat methods:

Keyword stuffing - This is one of the most commonly used black hat methods practiced by black hat SEOs to get faster results. Keyword stuffing refers to redundancy of targeted keywords in the page title, description, body, images etc. This is a serious violation of search engine rules and may result in penalization of your site from the index.

Cloaking - Cloaking refers to pointing one page to the search engine spiders and another version of the same page to the web site visitors. This is done so as to get the spiders to the optimized page while the visitors get to see a different page. Cloaking is another black hat method which will surely ban your site from the search engines. In fact, this is the only reason why major car manufacturer BMW got their German site banned from Google recently.

Hidden Text - Hidden text is a way of plugging in additional text so as to increase the keyword density of a page. Texts are hidden by using a font color that matches the one used in the page background. Hidden texts are hard to be seen by humans but it's a mere child's play for search engines to find them out.

Using Redirection - Many webmasters optimize a page for the search engines and then redirect those pages to some other destination using a META REFRESH tag which redirects a visitor to a new destination after a fixed period of time. This is considered as spam by the search engines and may lead to serious penalties or even permanent ban.

Another way of redirection which, if kept for a long time might raise some red flags in the search engines is the 302 temporary redirect. This is a redirection which is made at the server level of web sites and such redirection are meant to redirect visitors to a new page on a temporary basis. But if such a redirection lasts more for than 6 months, it raises some red flags in the search engines and thus the site gets penalized or banned by the search engines.

Another redirection which will surely get your site in a soup is the one using Java Script redirection. Such a redirection is made using Java Scripts and is a serious violation of search engine guidelines.

Take care not to use any of the above methods to optimize a website. Using any of the above means to optimize your website may result in your website being banned in Google and many other Search Engines. Use fair methods of optimizing your site by following proven Search Engine guidelines Remember you are making a site for a human not a robot.

How to Achieve Online Success With SEO Search Engine Optimization

Without good SEO search engine optimization you have little chance of a high listing on the search engines. Search engines such as Google use algorithms to determine the relevance of your web pages and their listing positions, and without an understanding of how to handle them you have little chance of success.

By far the best traffic to get is free traffic, and unless you are expert at using pay per click advertising techniques such as Google AdWords you are liable to spend a fortune trying to make up for your SEO inadequacies. 99% of those that start off full of hope with their online business fail to make any money: largely because they do not know how to promote their website. That is not the only reason, of course, and you don't always need a website, but if you need one to promote your products or services, then it is imperative that you understand the principles of SEO so as to earn as high a position in the listings as you can.

SEO search engine optimization is how you let the search engines know what each page in your website is about, and also how relevant it is to the search term used (keyword) by anyone seeking information on your niche. It is not enough to have a good looking well designed website with lots of good content on your site. It is essential that manipulate the search engine algorithms to calculate a high degree of relevance of your page to the requirements of those using Google and other search engines to find information.

Algorithms are mathematical formulas and are blind. They cannot see your great graphics and web design. They read the source code of your site, including the text. You can give greater weighting to the important words on your page through proper formatting in order to enable the algorithm to accurately establish the theme of the page.

The spiders that crawl your site should be led to where you want them to go to, and good website design, site navigation and internal linking structure is part of achieving that. It is also a component of your SEO. There is a lot more to SEO than just some H heading tags and keyword meta tags - much more. The majority of people do not understand what SEO is or how to optimize their site, even if learning how to do so could immeasurably improve their chance of online success.

However, learning SEO is more than just reading about it online. You have to see it in action, and fully understand what you are doing when optimizing your website. There are still professionals who believe that you must have 2% - 3% keyword density on your page. They have disagreed with me strongly yet I know that what they say is rubbish: contextual relevance is what search engines are seeking these days, not interminable repetitions of keywords that will achieve nothing but get your site lost in the supplementary results that nobody sees.

There have been a large number of changes in search engine optimization over the last few years, and SEO is no longer what it once was. However, what will never change is the benefit of understanding what you are doing when optimizing your website for search engines.

SEO search engine optimization is the difference between success and failure of your website and possibly even your online business. Don't just read about it: see it in action and understand it.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) For Writers & Authors - How to Improve Your Website's SEO (Part 1)

We all know that we need to use Search Engine Optimization to send more traffic to our Websites and help bring the best, high-paying clients to our doors. But knowing exactly what SEO tactics are right for your writer's or author's Website can be confusing - which is why I wrote this article for you.

The Source of 80 Percent of Your Traffic Comes from Here

Did you know that for most writers and authors, (and coaches and artists) - about 80 percent of the traffic that comes to your Website is coming from the 3 major search engines - Google, Yahoo! and MSN?

That's great news - because it means people can find you easily.

It's also bad news - because if you don't understand how to optimize your Website for the search engines - and yet still make it interesting and relevant for the people who are searching for you - then you're likely to be lost in the crowd amongst all the other writers, authors, artists and coaches.

Can You Do Search Engine Optimization Yourself? Can You?

One of the biggest problems many writers and authors have is that they're not sure what they should do and what they should stay away from - sometimes it's tough to know where you should even start to optimize your Website or Blog.

And some writers and authors aren't even sure if they CAN optimize their Website or Blog for the search engines, because it seems really complicated and scary.

And of course, it only gets more confusing when every so-called expert has a different idea of what steps to take when you're just getting started. Which means it doesn't take long before Search Engine Optimization can seem pretty overwhelming, partly because quite often those experts seem to contradict each other - and sometime even themselves!

Why You May Be Experiencing SEO Overload

And of course, with all the SEO information that's floating around in cyberspace, it's pretty easy to find yourself in "information overload" - which is just one more reason SEO is confusing and so many people wonder how to get started to optimize their Websites - they do less than they could - or should - be doing.

DIY (Do It Yourself) Search Engine Optimization

And that's why we've written this article for you. We've done all the research, we've checked out the experts' - and the so-called experts' - Websites, and we've taken all the best information about Search Engine Optimization, cut through the fluff and the nonsense, and distilled it into an easy-to-understand and easy-to-follow - checklist. (I'll tell you how you can get your own copy of the checklist in just a minute.)

A Definition of Search Engine Optimization

But lets start with a simple definition of search engine optimization, so we're both on the same page, and there's no confusion:

Search engine optimization (SEO) means structuring your Website or Blog both on the site itself - (online optimization) and out in the internet (called offline optimization) in a way that opens your Website to the search engines.

When done correctly, your SEO strategy can actually improve your Website's chances of being found and placed as close to the top of the list as possible when someone searches for your chosen keywords.

The good news is, you don't have to be an SEO expert to get started right away - just a few simple changes will have significant results.

A Review of the Best Search Tools and Optimization Areas

The second part of this article will review the best search tools and tells you which areas of your Website or blog you can optimize that will have the biggest impact on where your site shows up when sometimes types a question on a search engine, using your chosen keywords.

The bottom line is, there are simple steps you can take to optimize your Website or blog for the search engines, and improve your chances of getting ranked highly so more of your clients, customers and fans can find you easily.
