So what exactly is SEO?
Search engine optimization otherwise known as SEO is a popular form of search engine marketing. The main goal of which (as its name would suggest) is to improve the ranking of the site in various search engines. An entire industry of consultants has sprung up around the idea of search engine optimization. However it's important to note that there are two distinct and disparate methodologies at work when it comes to optimization. The two categories are best known as "white hat SEO" (which is aimed at improving overall site quality, and increasing the site's ranking through approved methods), or "black hat SEO" (often use methods such as cloaking and spamdexing to increase rankings. However, using such methods can lead to your site to being removed from search engine listings). Those in the white hat camp charge that black hat methods are not only giving SEO a bad name but are also attempting to manipulate and undermine the search rankings. The black hatters counter that argument by saying that in truth all SEO is an attempt to manipulate rankings, and therefore the particular methods one uses to increase rankings are irrelevant. In other words they take the more Machiavellian approach of using the end results to justify the means they use.
So what more specifically are the methods being employed by the two camps?
White hat methods:
These methods typically involve following the search engines' published guidelines as to what is and what isn't acceptable. The advice typically given by the white hat SEO experts is to create more user-friendly content, and not focus so much on the search engines. That is if your site is well put together and presents something users need it will naturally climb in the rankings. Also by making content that is easily accessible to the search engines spiders it will be properly read and therefore properly indexed in the search engines. The white hatters are needed most often because a webmaster has made critical mistakes in either the design or the set-up of their websites, inadvertently "poisoning" them so that they will not rank well. The SEOs then attempt to discover and correct these mistakes, which may include unreadable menus, broken links, temporary redirects, or simply a poor navigation structure.
Here are a few examples of SEO activities which the search engines find acceptable:
o Using a reasonably-sized, accurate description meta tag without excessive use of keywords, exclamation marks or off topic terms.
o Optimizing tags, titles and other parts of the code as necessary;
o Using WordTracker or a similar database to find popular and relevant keywords and phrases to use for your site.
o Monitoring the various search engines to ensure that your URL gets indexed
o Increasing the amount of unique content on the site.
o Writing quality content for the website visitors instead of the search engines.
Black hat methods:
Whereas the white hat methods follow search engine guidelines "Black hat" SEO methods to try to improve rankings by any means necessary. Most of these methods are disapproved of by the search engines, typically because of their deceptive nature, but also hamper the ability of the search engines to provide quality content to site visitors. Search engines often penalize the sites they discover using black hat methods, by reducing their rankings or eliminating their listings from the search engine results altogether. These penalties are usually applied automatically by the search engines' algorithms, because the Internet is too large to make manual policing of websites feasible. However once they are discovered, search engines may take action against those found to be using unethical SEO methods. Take for example Google's removal of both BMW Germany and Ricoh Germany in February 2006 for use of these practices.
One common black hat method is known as Spamdexing. Spamdexing is the promotion of irrelevant, chiefly commercial, pages through various deceptive techniques and the abuse of the search algorithms. Unfortunately it often gets confused with white hat search engine optimization techniques, which do not involve deceit. Spamming involves getting websites more exposure than they deserve for their keywords, leading to unsatisfactory search results. Optimization involves getting websites the rank they deserve on the most targeted keywords, leading to satisfactory search experiences.
One example of spamdexing is link farming. Link farming can be basically defined as any group of web pages that all link to every other page in the group. Another common practice is listing popular keywords in fine print or in the same color as the background so they can't be seen by users.
So how can you tell the difference between Black and White SEO practices?
A very easy way to distinguish between the two is though the amount of time involved in getting the desired results. White hat SEOs use methods that produce results slowly over time and only after a good deal of effort has been put into the site. Black hat SEOs offer you quick and easy results most, if not all, of which will obtained through deceptive practices.

Black & White - The Philosophies of SEO
Black Hat, White Hat - Gray Hat
Internet marketers and the ongoing struggle to make money online. There are more and more people going on the Internet to seek their fortunes.
It is almost like the old "Gold rush days" of California. I am sure we all remember those days. You do not need anything more than a computer and a connection to the Internet to become a Internet marketer.
The promise of being your own boss and making a lucrative income awaits everyone willing to give it a try.
There are a few things that Internet marketers need to know in order to begin their new careers. If you sell anything on the Internet, you will probably have a website.
Visitors to your site are considered traffic. You must generate a lot of traffic to covert the visitors into actual sales. This is where SEO enters into the picture.
SEO is all about search engine optimization. People on the Internet will find you through the major search engines when they use keyword searches to find the information they are looking for.
Your website, forum posts, articles, etc. should be using SEO so the search engines can index your website and then rank it so it can be found correctly when people use the search engines to find relevant information.
For a while now, there is a battle going on within the Internet among marketers that use SEO. Black Hat SEO is to use optimizing practices to fool the search engines and the use of other traffic generating techniques that are questionable or unethical.
Generally stated, the Black Hat SEO techniques are used to fool the search engines into believing a website is very relevant to the keywords searches when in fact the promotional site may only be a blatant sales tactic.
White Hat SEO is the opposite of Black Hat practices. The White Hat SEO marketers play by the rules. They want their sites to be relevant and fair, offering solid information on their sites.
White Hat SEO individuals count on the sale of their products or services after real trust has been established first.
There is now a lot of gray area in-between the black and the white because nothing is really black and white. Remember the first time you began to play in your new sandbox? Someone probably told you not to get dirt mixed in with the sand. How long did it take before the sandbox began turning a shade of gray?
Call them the Gray Hat SEO practitioners. Today, there are many. White Hat SEO requires a lot of patience, without any solid traffic coming into your promotional website for some time. For someone new in the marketing game, asking them to be very patient for traffic is a lot to ask.
The competition for traffic is very tight. It is not easy trying to make a dollar and stay within the White Hat rules of engagement. The lure of certain questionable methods in order to gain more exposure will sometimes be employed.
Admittedly, the lines between white and black can easily become blurred. When there are questionable traffic generating techniques available to use that get results, then quite often, some of these methods will be adopted as marketing tools.
The search engines want everyone to employ White Hat SEO so their visitors can find relevant information on what they are searching for. This is why they are called "search engines".
With more marketers fighting for exposure, questionable SEO tactics will always be used by some. In the end, it will be up to the Internet marketer to find it within them to monitor themselves, play by the rules and learn as much as they can about proper SEO methods.

Black Hat, White Hat and Gray Hat SEO
Search Engine Optimizers (SEO) can wear many different "hats". The color of the single hat is determined by the SEO philosophy and the methods, that is used to optimize websites. We usually speak of:
Black Hat SEO
White Hat SEO
Gray Hat SEO
As an affiliate it is important to understand the difference and the risks between the single SEO Hats.
Black Hat SEO
Black Hat SEO is also known as SEO spamming, and is when someone creates websites that have little or no value, that are intended to trick the search engines into offering irrelevant or low-quality search results.
Black Hat SEO will heavily leverage technology and automation in order to create tons of poor quality sites, and gain inbound links from other websites (link spam). Once the visitor has arrived to the website, the owner of the website will often use some kind of cloaking or redirect to show the visitor a sales page of the products, that is the really goal of the Black Hat SEO technique.
Black Hat SEO are all about getting fast results. The method they use to optimize their websites will often get the website to the top of the search engines very rapidly, but when the search engines catch-on, the website will very often crash or get banned.
I do not condone Black Hat SEO for affiliates, because it is very risky SEO business, and it can especially damaging, when it is used on a website, that you have invested heavily resources in.
White Hat SEO
White Hat SEO focus on building quality content first and SEO second. White Hat SEO may use technology and automation to build their websites too, but they use it to accomplish different goals. They write content for people, not search engines. White Hat SEO tend to rely more on their content and marketing skills to achieve a top ranking, rather than automated programs.
White Hat SEO understand that good search engine rankings takes time and don't try to rush results. White Hat SEO are able to get more inbound links from other websites, because their content is considered valuable. They go by the philosophy CONTENT IS KING.
When you use White Hat SEO tactics you run absolutely no risk of being banned by the search engines and visitors who come to your website will also be more likely to convert.
Gray Hat SEO
A lot of SEO fall into the Gray Hat category, and there are many shades of gray. Some Gray Hat SEO tend to use more questionable tactics and take greater risks. Gray Hat SEO is all about risk versus reward. Some Gray Hat techniques may be frowned by the search engines, but are not necessarily against their rules, while other techniques may be more risky and should be used only after careful consideration.
What SEO hat should you wear ?
The hat that you decide to wear should be determined by your goals and objectives. I would never recommend anybody to use any black hat SEO strategies, because these strategies are short-lived and will almost always get you banned in the search engines.
Everybody should strive to be a white hat SEO and focus on writing quality content. However it may make sense for you in some instances to use Gray Hat SEO tactics to gain a competitive advantage. But when using Gray Hat SEO tactics it is very important, that you measure the risk and reward of each strategy, and determine for yourself, if some of these Gray Hat SEO strategies makes sense for your websites.
But it is important that you never take too big a risk with your most valuable websites, and here it is much more valuable, that you make a more safe and long term SEO strategy for these websites.

Choosing a White Hat SEO Company
Your number one goal is the satisfaction of your customers, and you have built your business on this principle. You arrive on time for appointments, return calls, hire dependable and responsible employees, and strive to provide the highest quality service possible. Though your own business is principled and fair, you know this is not the case for every company in your industry. Some skip corners and cheat their clients in exchange for short-term gain.
In the SEO industry, these sorts of methods are known as black-hat SEO. At best, black-hat SEO is a quick fix, providing a temporary boost for your rankings that will drop off as soon as your contract ends. At worst, these techniques can get your website penalized or banned by the search engines.
A representative recently announced that Google is now cracking down harder than ever on these black-hat techniques, improving the search results ranking algorithm to make it more difficult for spammy or low-quality sites to rank highly. Search engines are engaged in a continuous battle against webspam, and companies that use spam in order to gain higher rankings can expect to pay the price as search algorithms become smarter.
You have invested too much into your website to be penalized for the actions of an underhanded SEO company. To protect your website from the repercussions of unapproved SEO techniques, it is essential to choose an ethical, white-hat SEO company to handle your Internet marketing. A black-hat SEO company will most likely not tell you that they are using these methods, so how do you know which company to trust with your website?
First of all, a reputable SEO company will demonstrate a commitment to quality. You should only do business with a company that will produce the unique, quality content that Google and other search engines value. If your SEO company is not showing you what they are writing on your behalf, you have no way to know if they are fulfilling their promises in this regard. A dependable company will show you any material written for your account.
Another essential quality to look for in white-hat SEO company is transparency. You should never be left in the dark on the processes of your campaign, regardless of results. A reliable SEO company will keep you informed of the methods they are using to improve your search rankings, and will use reporting, tracking and analytics to show you the progress of your campaign.
The success of any business is ultimately a reflection of its services, methods and principles, whether the business is a "brick and mortar" shop or an Internet marketing company. If you want sustainable results from your Internet marketing campaign, always choose to do business with a company practicing white-hat SEO.

How White Hat SEO Optimization Can Produce You Top Rankings
There is no doubt that White Hat SEO can produce you top rankings. The reason behind is very simple as these provide search engines with authentic data. This data is caught by search engines without any deception. That is why they provide an entrepreneur with the comfort of legitimacy which is hard to overlook. However a Black Hat SEO will seldom care about that and will indulge into things that are made for search engines only and not for humans. But a White Hat SEO will produce something which is well scripted to get a good web page ranking.
A sudden divide has ruptured the SEO industry. This divide has been caused by a separatist movement between Black Hat and White Hat. The difference between the two is very simple. Black Hat is something that uses unauthorized means of search engine optimization. White Hat SEO on the other hand makes use of genuine ways of search engine optimization for authenticity.
Now the question that arises out of this scenario is that how White Hat SEO optimization can produce you top rankings? The first thing that a proper SEO firm will in this regard is create a good and easy website. What this actually means is that a reliable SEO firm will produce a website which is easy to navigate. This in turn will increase web traffic and help in attracting more visitors. That is why they construct a website that can draw the attention search engine crawlers.
Then a White Hat SEO also takes care of a website being SEO friendly. Hence the content needs to be extremely well fabricated of any website. They will make sure that the content of website is fresh and accurate. It will have all the hot niches and proper keywords to spin a magic. This will be done by keeping the target audience and subject matter of a web page intact. They will never compromise quality of content or nay other services that is required to get a website up the ladder.
Again a White Hat SEO will also satisfy the needs of an RSS feed to make the content visible without venturing the homepage. Then they will also work on things like site maps, feedback forms and making larger icons all of which help in attracting more and more viewers. They will assist a big or small business house with blogs and all the details that is possible to be done. The will follow all the rules and get a web page in the top ranks with accuracy.
Overall it can be said that web pages are not scrutinized by search engines ad visitors but also by experts from the industry. So a SEO firm needs to treat a website with utmost care. They need to use appropriate methods to get top rankings amidst search engines. It is always better to use dependable measures to do so in comparison to Black Hat SEO or any other such unreliable techniques.

How White Hat SEO Practices Differ From Others
Remaining true to the guidelines and ethics as set by the web world SEO community, proactive determination for clinching the requirements of clients, applying only long-acting and potential SEO methods and an unequalled persistence feature white hat SEO practice. Unlike black hat SEO practices, the white SEO ones involve the job of optimization through a thorough on-page analyses of SEO-friendly code and design of a website, meta tags, titles tags, meta descriptions, meta keywords and internal linking as well as through off-page analyses that include link generation tasks, social media efforts and purchasing links. Black hat SEO techniques do neither follow ethics and proper guidelines nor do they care for a long-term solution when they try for only short-staying gains and solutions in terms of page rankings.
Anyone who has been in this field for a long time can recall the lyrics "we are the good guys --- the black hats lost." There is no doubt that a fair way may need a longer period to fetch a desired target when an unfair means may bring you huge fortunes overnight. But in business, be sure that gimmicks don't find any permanent place because its concocted and feigned stance will certainly be debunked in a day or the other.
In case of optimizing a website, be it a new one or an older one, unstable and fake rankings may mar the further prospects of a website that could be on some pleasing positions where a huge traffic can be expected from. And here only, white hat SEO methods have many reasons to prove its successful worth.
On-Page Analyses: Designs and contents of a website need to be minutely examined and stronger keywords that could match properly the gravity of the business of the website accordingly are selected from different web pages. To be very precise, a thorough research across the web pages of an assigned website for SEO are required to be performed, so that generation of meta tags, meta titles, meta descriptions and so on can be possible and by doing so off-page optimization job will be more convenient although the processes of increasing page ranks and page visibility will take more time than the ways undertaken by black hat SEO techniques. Unfortunately, black hat SEO techniques do never care for these ethics. Nor do they conform to the proper SEO techniques. As their very name signifies, their dark ways and objectives lie in promoting web pages and their ranks and they do only care for quick improvement, however transitory their existence may be.
Off-Page Analyses: Off-page SEO jobs such as link building, directory submission, article submission, blog commenting and link exchanges, video submission and the likes do also take a considerable period of time for improving page ranks of a website when all ethics are duly followed by a SEO Company. But the scene tells another story. Most of the SEO companies do not stick to the norms. They prefer dark ways. Indiscriminate exchanges of links and the likes to websites of alien kind and software-driven cunning submission of links can dredge the litany of lapses within a short time span. In a word, any unethical SEO jobs can be termed as misleading techniques and its results that seem to be apparently successful are equally short-lived.
Any entrepreneurs would very reasonably prefer White hat SEO technique to Black hat. The truth is business is to stay for longer than gimmicks that evaporate and are forgotten along the gradual exposition of their empty buoyancy.

On-Page White Hat SEO Techniques (Part 1)
On-page white Hat Search engine optimization (SEO) encompasses all techniques employed that are acceptable to the search engines. These same techniques can be implemented by tweaking the codes of your website to attain a higher rank in the search results.
What is PURE White Hat SEO?
In its strictest sense, pure white hat SEO only refers to on-page SEO. Ideally, other webmasters should link to your website on their own accord.
These are ethical techniques and are highly recommended by the search engines because to them, this is how they think the web should work. Pure white hat SEO discourages the use of the flaws of the search engines algorithms to their own advantage. Otherwise, you are already implementing the opposite which are black hat techniques.
What Will You Benefit from Employing White Hat SEO?
Following what is ethical and acceptable clears your path on your way to the top. In the beginning traffic may be a tad slow, but you are guaranteed that you won't get banned or sanctioned by the search engines. As a result, your steady rise to the top can benefit you in the long run-longevity is what we aim for.
Here Are Some Pure White Hat Techniques That You Must Religiously Employ
1. High Quality, Original and Unique Content
In case you are wondering why blogs and wikis frequent the search result listing, it's because of their long record of original and high quality contents. Search engines love content. Creating contents on a regular basis and sustaining it for a year or so, is the most effective way of wooing the search engines. They give love back by rewarding you a high rank in the search results.
Notice the emphasis on high quality and original contents in the preceding paragraph-Search engines abhor any type of duplication when it comes to optimizing your website. When search engines trot the internet to check on websites and they see two or three websites with the same content, this is bad news. I am not sure how search engines determine which one to sanction. What I am sure of is only one of them will be show in the search results.
Having unique content means that you must be sure that your content is the "one and only" in the web. Never copy part and parcel of another website's content. At the same time, don't copy your own site's content for forum posting or article submission purposes. You may post an excerpt of your content on forums but for article directories, a whole new content must be written.
In addition, you must be sure that there are no duplicate contents within your own website. For example, don't post all your contents under the homepage category. If you are a WordPress user, you can make use of the "read more" tag or the post excerpt tag.
2. Help the Search Engine Crawlers Index Your Site
You must structure your website in such a way that search engine crawlers (spiders or robots) can easily find and index your website. Here's how:
a. Never place text in the image file. Why? Search engines are incapable of reading these texts thus preventing them from associating your site with these words. In case you really need to place some texts in the image, you can copy the words and place them in the alt attribute of the image.
b. Avoid Making Pure Flash Websites. These are embedded in SWF file and when you check the source code of your website, you will not see any content. Keep in mind that the search engines see the website in the same way you see its source code. Therefore, if you can't see content, search engines won't see it either. As a result, search robots will not be able to effectively associate your site with the words in your content.
c. Never Clutter Your Website's Header Section. Separate your CSS codes and Javascripts by placing them in external files so that crawlers can immediately see the content of your site without having to dig through CSS codes and Javascripts in the header.

On-Page White Hat SEO Techniques (Part 2)
This is a continuation of the different on-page white hat SEO techniques. Again, employing pure white hat SEO may be a slow process to the top but this is what works. It ensures longevity and other benefits that your website will enjoy in the long run. Here are the other tips that you must learn about.
1. Naturally Inject Keywords in Your Content
When you write contents for your website, write it as if you're also writing a thesis paper, a diary entry or a research paper. To keep your visitors reading, you may also make it more interesting, fun and easy to read.
Let's say your topic is about "crackers", make sure that the word "crackers" will be seen a few times with your article. In this example, "crackers" is your keyword.
As for keyword density, you don't have to worry much about high keyword density or not being able to inject your target keywords. Nevertheless, you may replace some instances of recurring keywords with their synonyms. This is helpful because other people may be searching the web using these synonyms instead of your actual target keyword.
Another useful tip is making your target keywords bold or italics. Search engine crawlers will see this as important for the overall context of your article. Abusing this rule is no longer white hat rather, black hat SEO.
When it comes to making your keywords bold or italicized, make sure that you do it only once for a particular keyword or keyword phrase. If you italicize or bold all your keywords, search engine bots may see this as spamdexing or spamming and it will greatly affect the performance of that particular webpage/website in the search results. Moreover, if you have too many bold or italicized words, your visitors may immediately leave the page because it can be a pain the eye.
2. Use of Alt and Title Attributes
The alt attributes can be used to describe an image. On the other hand, the title attribute is used to describe an image in relation to the topic that you are presenting. This is usually used as a tooltip. Writing alt and title in this manner makes your keyword come out naturally. You do not fill these two with keywords otherwise, they will be translated as keyword stuffing, a black hat technique.
To have a better idea of other white hat SEO techniques that you must employ in your websites, you can read the first part of this article. It contains a detailed discussion of the importance of using of unique content and how to help the search engines understand and "crawl" your site.

Search Engine Optimisation Black Hat or White Hat SEO
If you are looking around for a search engine optimisation company to carry out some SEO work on your website, then make sure you choose the right colour hat. There are a large number of companies that adopt a fast and unethical approach to SEO, known as black hat SEO, while there are a smaller number or companies that implement ethical SEO work, known as white hat SEO. The key to choosing the right colour, which is obviously the white, is as follows...
Before you even think of taking on a search engine optimisation company, the first thing is to shop around and see what is out on the market. The same principles would apply if you were to buy a new computer. You would look at a few models, prices and what each model has to offer. If an SEO company was to offer a service that would guarantee you top ranks, there is a very good chance they are wearing a black hat. No SEO company can guarantee top ranks since they have no direct control over the search engines and their ranking algorithms. They can however mention that top ranks are highly achievable due to their previous success with other clients.
Be sure to look at a companies' portfolio page (if they have one on their website or simply ask them) and carry out some research on their clients. This can be done by looking at the client's website performance within the search engines for the selected keywords they have been optimised for. Another good idea would be to write a courtesy email to the client asking for a reference on the SEO company they have used to optimise their website.
The most important giveaway on a black hat SEO company is the way they would describe their services. If a company cannot go into detail on how they carry out their work (meaning they are very vague), and this involves justifying each step of their work, then it would be best to avoid their services. A proper SEO firm will be more than happy to explain their services in detail and justify their reasons for using such techniques. If you cannot quiet understand the techniques they use then be sure to do some research on the internet and read SEO articles that explain each technique. If you find that their work fits along the lines of your research and that it is all ethical, then they are a company you should put on your list.
A last point to mention, a company should stress the phrase 'patience is the key to success with SEO'. If a company claims that they can achieve results very fast, then it is time to start running. In theory, SEO that is carried out correctly on a website will take time until the results start to show (most cases 3 to 6 months but could be longer).
Would you like to know what could happen to your website if you hire a black hat SEO company, regardless of how big or small your website is in terms of brand recognition? An example would be the story of the BMW German website. They hired a black hat SEO firm to carry out some work on their website and that resulted in their site being banned from the Google ranks. So it is best to do your research on SEO by reading articles such as this one and question a companies approach on search engine optimisation. This will ensure that you have selected the clean white hat and that your website will not be tarnished from the black.

SEO - The Difference Between Black Hat and White Hat SEO
A discussion of black hat and white hat SEO is as pointless as a discussion of the difference between black and white witchcraft. In witchcraft, the minute a technique is used to control the outcome of a situation it is known as black magic. The same can be said of SEO. A technique used to manipulate the search engines is known as black hat SEO. The problem is that white hat SEO does precisely the same thing so it is not any less "dirty" than black hat in some ways
An SEO tactic, technique or method is considered "White hat" if it conforms to the search engines' guidelines and does not attempt to deceive it. White Hat SEO is not just about following guidelines, but is about ensuring that the content a search engine indexes and subsequently ranks is the same content a user will see.
White Hat advice is generally summed up as creating content for users, not for search engines, and then make that content easily accessible to their spiders. It is more about user friendliness and accessibility rather than about tilting the odds seriously in one's favor.
Black hat" SEO employs more deceptive methods to try to improve rankings. The search engines usually disapprove these methods. This can range from text that is "hidden", either as text colored similar to the background or by redirecting users from a page that is built for search engines to one that is more human friendly. As a general rule, a method that sends a user to a page that was different to the page described in the search is called Black hat. Search engines can and do penalize sites they discover using black hat methods, either by reducing their rankings or eliminating their listings from their databases altogether. Such penalties can be applied either automatically by the search engines' algorithms, or by a manual review of a site.

The Differences in White Hat and Black Hat SEO Techniques
A wide variety of SEO techniques exist for improving the search engine rankings of web sites and their individual pages. Some of these techniques are considered positive and ethical, while others are risky and manipulative. Different SEO marketers use one or both of these strategies to varying degrees of success.
Internet marketers call safe, non-manipulative techniques White Hat SEO, while less reputable methods are referred to as Black Hat techniques. Some examples of White Hat SEO include optimizing META tags, putting keywords in URLs, submitting sites to directories, making sitemaps, obtaining links on related sites, and creating keyword-optimized content. These techniques help search engines locate relevant pages people are looking for. Search engines encourage such methods through services like Google Webmaster Tools.
On the other hand, Black Hat SEO includes efforts like redirecting search engine "spiders" to different pages than human visitors see, mass-posting "spam" comments (on blogs, forums, articles), or putting lists of keywords at the end of each page in very small fonts. Black hat methods may actually reduce the quality of search engine results. Some of these SEO strategies try to deceive users into visiting sites about subjects they don't have any interest in, which puts them at odds with the purpose of search engines.
So how does White Hat compare vs. Black Hat for marketers and web site operators? Black Hat SEO techniques can often be faster and easier to implement. However, they run the risk of causing search engines to downgrade or remove a site from results. In the long-term, they sometimes become ineffective; search engines usually catch on to each Black Hat technique after it is introduced, often penalizing sites which have used it.
White Hat SEO remains more time-consuming, but it yields better long-term results and has a more positive impact. People prefer to use web sites they haven't been deceived into visiting, and search engines don't like to list sites which have manipulated their way to a high ranking. Sites using white hatted techniques usually don't have to worry about being removed from search engine results.
However, it remains important to carry out White Hat SEO techniques correctly and effectively. Using white hatted methods excessively or improperly can turn them into Black Hatted techniques. For example, posting linked comments on related blogs isn't considered very problematic, but using software to submit huge quantities of identical or irrelevant comments is definitely viewed as a Black Hat technique.
White Hat SEO methods, if done properly, can actually product the best long-term outcome and create a greater impact on the web in general. Several once-common Black Hat techniques have fallen into disuse after search engines successfully developed ways to detect them.

Use Only White Hat SEO
Search engine optimization is a very common term in the Internet marketing arena. I'm sure you've heard it tons of times, and you've also probably heard of White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO. What search engine optimization really is, is a way to increase the amount of traffic that lands on your website.
Using proper search engine optimization techniques, any website can rank higher in a search engine's search results page, for specific keywords and search terms that have been optimized for that website. When properly implemented, optimized websites have a competitive advantage over those that are not optimized, especially when dealing with crawler type search engines (such as Google).
Nonetheless, SEO has come under great scrutiny by the public, mainly because of the increased unethical manipulation of this technique. And for this reason, there exist the terms White Hat and Black Hat SEO. Black Hat SEO is simply SEO techniques used to trick search engines immorally. White Hat SEO, on the other hand, concentrates on using ethical techniques to improve a particular website in the hope of being able to rank higher in search engine page results.
White Hat SEO is the only way to go if you are trying to market your website and generate traffic, while avoiding being penalized by search engines for unethical techniques. The core of the White Hat SEO approach is honesty and quality content. With a concentration on simplifying the structure of your website, ensuring that all software and programming is simple and clear for search engines to crawl your website, search engines will be more willing to rank your website higher for your optimized keywords or search terms.
SEO is not difficult, but you must be careful not to use any of those dirty old tricks. Many search engines continuously update their algorithms to spot ethically optimized websites. Is it worth it to risk it all, banish your webpage from any search engine results using Black Hat SEO? The obvious answer is no.
If you're still wondering what Hat you should wear, then you can learn more at Profit Lance. We'll ensure that you make the right decision.

What is Black Hat and White Hat and How Does it Relate to Your Affiliate and Adsense Sites
Search engine marketing is becoming more popular every day as more and more professionals report consistently making as a much as six figures in a month from highly optimized web sites. If you are subscribed to lots of Internet Marketing lists like me, I'm sure you've seen the dramatic rise Adsense and search engine marketing tools.
The problem with search engine marketing is that some of the techniques that used to work six months ago do not work as well (or not all all) in the present. You could easily spend hundreds of dollars on a marketing tool that currently works, but will not work in the future. So how do you know if you are wasting your money?
One thing that will save you from being a victim of the next "cutting edge marketing technique" is learning how to identify tools and information that promote long term success rather than "quick fixes" and short lived traffic.
One way you can understand how to identify things that will ensure your long term success is knowing the difference between Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO tools and information.
White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO are terms that describe the methods you use to gain quality search engine rankings for your web site. One is a more of a long term strategy and one is a short term strategy.
If you are interested in learning more about SEO and how to stop wasting your money on pointless tools, here is some information that will definitely help you distinguish between the two.
Black Hat SEO
These are aggressive tactics used to gain high search engines rankings that do not comply with the philosophy of the search engines. Sites produced with black hat SEO techniques are considered unethical spam by most web surfers because they provide no real content or user experience. They basically look like pages of another search engine or paragraphs of jargon containing keywords instead of real content.
In spite of these facts, they have proven to be very lucrative to those who are up on the latest black hat ranking techniques. But most of they time these techniques stop working as the search engines become savvy to their tricks. As a result a high ranked page can simply disappear from the search engines, especially Google.
Many webmasters have complained of their sites being completely dropped from search engines, causing them to lose precious revenue streams. Imagine going from thousands of dollars per month to absolute zero!
Beginning webmasters often fall victim to tools that promote black hat strategies. These tools can cost hundreds of dollars, yet they can become obsolete in a very short period of time.
Some black hat techniques may include:
· Keyword Stuffing
· Web Page Cloaking
· Doorway Pages
· Hits Generators
· Artificial Blog Posting
Some of these techniques still work effectively, but may predict that they will not work in the near future.
White Hat SEO
White Hat SEO techniques are considered "organic" or more natural methods of getting a site ranked. They follow the strict rules and guidelines of search engines and use the natural ranking methods to gain high status...
Search engines love these types of sites because they contain the quality information and experience their users are seeking. Users want to find the content most related to their topic of research or interest and white hat sites provide this information.
Some techniques considered to be White Hat involve
· Getting quality backlinks from other highly ranked sites
· Frequent additions of original Content
· Blogging
· Optimizing you web pages
· Creating original content
These techniques comply with the philosophy of the search engines and are usually harder to implement and take more time. But at the same time, white hat sites have more staying power once they receive a high ranking.
Grey Area SEO
There are some techniques dance the line between White Hat and Black Hat techniques. These seo ranking methods have the potential to provide quality content, but don't always function that way. That's what makes them borderline Black Hat techniques.
One good example is content scraping. Content scraping software captures search engine results and descriptions and dynamically adds them to your page as content for the search engines to find.
There are many tools available where you can build sites this way, and they have proven to be very effective. Search engines are currently allowing it, but as it becomes more and more abused, it may soon become a black hat technique, if it already isn't.
As you can see Black Hat SEO works but does not have the long term success of a site created with White Hat SEO techniques.
So next time you get the next big adsense tool or the next big site builder, ask yourself if the techniques used support the black hat or the white hat philosophy of search engine marketing.
This will help you avoid wasting time and money on tactics and expensive tools that promote short lived strategies. If you follow the guidelines of the search engines, you are more likely to succeed on a long term basis.

What is White Hat SEO Anyway
People talk about white hat seo and black hat seo all the time in the search engine optimization industry, what do they mean? Specifically, terms like white hat seo sound like they apply to hackers and malicious virus programmers, why are they being applied to the advertising industry?
This is a great question, and I have read everything I can find related to the topic. I mostly see confusion and misconception. There seems to be a great deal of fear out there related to not being "good" if you are a consultant in this space. You would hate for something bad to happen to your clients' web site, or worse, the performance in the search engines to suffer significantly. And many turn to Google for clear definitions on this topic because they are the market leader in search engine usage. I'm not sure why that gives them the authority to define the ethics of Internet advertising activities, but it seems to in many people's eyes.
I've looked to Google for clarity on the topic, but this has not been great. Sure, they have guidelines for webmasters and everyone should read them. They offer some helpful information on what is considered "okay" and what is not considered white hat seo. But they are also have a number of very vague statements such as "don't have multiple sites with substantially duplicate content." Well, what does "substantially duplicate content" mean? If I run two blogs about running where we discuss different running shoes, is that substantially duplicate content? I understand that some people take content and post it to thousands of different web sites and we all agree that this practice is duplicate content and is bad. But these are extreme examples. Where is the line? What if the content is posted to 25 web sites? Too many? Not enough to be bad? This entire discussion starts to feel very slippery and without objective anchors to define activities. Perhaps this is how Google likes it? It does serve their purposes.
In the end, the term white hat seo is not helpful to me. First off, it was stolen from the hacker community and is really better suited to describe internet security. Second, I can't find a clear definition on what it is anyway, even from Google. One of my favorite quotes is: "more and more white hat seo is nothing." I laughed out loud when I read that because it is somewhat true. But what's really true is that search engine optimization is such a new industry that it is without any solid definitions. That's the real reason for the confusion and that will be corrected over time.

White Hat - Black Hat SEO Practices - Where is the Line
There is still much debate over White Hat and Black Hat SEO tactics. First, lets understand what SEO is: it is Search Engine Optimization. SEO covers a wide range of tactics and procedures, and ranges from on-site optimization to off-site marketing. Google still holds you cannot pay for search engine rankings, but is that really the case?
I started writing this article when I noticed a lot of blogs picking up my articles. These blogs had urls that had no meaning or relevancy to my industry. It seemed like someone was creating a free blog and cramming it with content and adsense, hoping for Page Rank increase and Ad Revenue. These blogs are poorly put together, and some even were obviously full of automatically generated content, which was nothing more than a bunch of words randomly positioned throughout the site.
I started investigating a little and it turns out, many of these blogs point to sites and have the same anchor text. The blogs are simply a means to get incoming links with the anchor text of your choice to boost search engine placement for keywords. Granted, I benefit from some of the additional links coming to my site from these "blogs", but I can't help but think of these pages as useless content black holes that are used to prey on adsense revenue and to essentially "cheat" in obtaining search engine rankings for keywords. I would consider this Black Hat SEO tactics.
This is just one of the tactics I found recently to be less than reputable. According to Google Webmaster Guidelines, incoming links act as a vote for your site. There "votes" affect your page ranks and your keyword ranking in search results based on the incoming Page Rank of the site that links to you, and the anchor text used as the link. voting for yourself hundreds or thousands of times by creating garbage web sites or blogs doesn't qualify as an ethical SEO tactic.
So what does qualify as an ethical SEO tactic? There are a lot of answers to that one. You can first start by creating a website that has good content. It should offer products, services, information, opinions, or be some other media type that people will find useful. Then, you can follow guidelines set up by the search engines to optimize that content for you industry keywords. Once you have a quality site, its time to tell people about it. Submit it to directories and get it added to listings. If you have an e-commerce site, get listed in local or regional directories. Write articles about your products or services and submit them to article directories. Create Press Releases about your new site and what it offers. Start a real blog with frequently updated content that people can follow and comment on. Use your expertise and experience to bring a fresh perspective to the industry. Once you have something useful for your customers or your audience, then you will naturally begin to generate votes and links for your site. That is how to optimize for search engines.

White Hat SEO
What is White Hat SEO?
"In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology, White Hat SEO refers to the usage of SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience opposed to search engines and completely follows search engine rules and policies. For example, a Web site that is SEO optimized, yet focuses on relevancy and organic ranking is considered to be optimized using White Hat SEO practices. Some examples of White Hat SEO techniques include using keywords and keyword analysis, back-linking, link building to improve link popularity, and writing content for human readers. White Hat SEO is more frequently used by those who intend to make a long-term investment on their Web site. Also called ethical SEO." (source: Webopedia)
White Hat SEO is nothing but strategies which are considered ethically correct and legitimate by SEO's as well as search engines while indexing a site. These techniques often make for a pleasant user experience, and more importantly bring in promising results in terms of high rankings and rank stability. The content that you would find on the webpage would not be solely for the search engine ranking purpose but also keeping the visitor in mind.
An example of a White Hat SEO technique, as opposed to a black hat technique would be back link generation (White Hat), as opposed to link farming (Black Hat). Back link generation is a process / set of techniques where some truly interesting and highly relevant content is created and then it is posted online. If the content is good, people will share it with others, and thus the link is propagated across the web. Link farming, on the other hand, is the unethical practice of creating a group of sites, and then hyper linking them all to one another, with no regard for relevancy. Back link generation can be a healthy way to increase the popularity of your site, while link farming will risk your website and your business through search engine penalties and the poor results of receiving non-relevant traffic.
There are countless White Hat SEO techniques, here are a few safe and ethical practices used to increase search engine rankings for a website:
Make the most of internal linking. You may be familiar with the fact that when sites link to other sites, search engines pass value for the terms/phrases used in the link anchor text. (Anchor text is the highlighted text in the link. internal links are an effective tool in improving a site's ranking. By adding links to the content of your site that are relevant for the user you can kill two birds with one stone - improve both search rankings and usability.
When web sites link to each other, either directly or indirectly through a number of different pages, a search engine might consider those links to be reciprocal links. Building reciprocal links is another White Hat SEO technique where you exchange links with other sites to get additional incoming links to your website. However, you must remember to have a high ranking popular site link to your content in a way that is relevant to readers.
Always keep in mind the golden rule of SEO: Content is king. Well written content not only engages the reader but it also Increases search engine rankings and traffic and promotes the likelihood of quality links from other sites. You should also update content regularly, every day, or at least a few times a week. Hosting a blog is a great way to boost visitor traffic onto your site as well which in turn will create better recognition and indexing of your pages.
If you want your website or blog to work for you and bring a steadily increasing flow of targeted visitors, I strongly encourage you to consider search optimization factors early in the game. If you're thinking about hiring an SEO firm the sooner the better. A great time to hire is when you're considering a site redesign, or planning to launch a new site. That way, you and your SEO consultant can ensure that your site is designed to be search engine-friendly from the start. It's always a good idea to have an SEO Company work on your site if you're unfamiliar with SEO. They will know what keywords to use for you, and make sure that your site provides relevant information.
As web technology and its users evolve in their understanding of how to market their site the ethical way, several of them come to us to know exactly what the search engines, the social media and the consumer is looking for. For more information don't hesitate to contact us, we are happy to help.

White Hat SEO - The Right Way to Improve Your Search Marketing Efforts
White Hat SEO methods are meant to improve the performance of your organic search engine marketing campaign, while adhering to the terms of service laid out by Google.
What Does the Term 'White Hat SEO' Mean?
White Hat SEO is the opposite of Black Hat SEO. Generally, search marketers who practice White Hat SEO (or ethical organic search marketing) techniques try to improve their organic rankings in the search engine results pages (SERPs), while maintaining the integrity of their website and following Google's steadfast set of rules.
Some examples of White Hat practices include:
Offering quality content, products and services
Using relevant keyword-rich meta tags
Making your website easy to navigate
Why are Ethical SEO Techniques Important for Good SEO?
In short, engaging in suspicious behavior can get your site banned from Google and other search engines, which should be a big deterrent for any search marketer or Web master. As the undisputed king of the search engines, Google is used by millions of people every day, and each user presents an opportunity for your website to be discovered. That said, Google has the power to drive tons of traffic to your website, so being banned from Google would result in a dramatic drop off in traffic and sales for business websites.
Considering all the work that goes into your website, think about how devastating it would be to get banned from the Internet's most popular search engine. Adding insult to injury, once you're banned from Google, it can be impossible to get re-listed again. A lifetime ban from Google would have tremendous consequences for your website, which for many companies could very well put them out of business.
Should You Use White Hat SEO Techniques for Your Website?
Implementing White Hat SEO practices is the most effective means of establishing a principled and successful website and business. In addition, practicing ethical search marketing ensures that your website will have longevity, authority and credibility with the search engines.
Let's look back at each of the above examples of ethical organic search techniques and go deeper to see how to implement each one.
Offer Quality Content, Products and Services
The key to getting traction in the search engines is to author great content around your quality products and/or services. People like good content and so do search engines because good content makes for a good experience for the user. The better your content the more likely people are to visit and explore your website and buy your products.
Using Relevant, Keyword-Rich Meta Tags
A big part of ethical SEO is the inclusion of meta tags in your "off page" site content. Meta tags include meta descriptions, title tags and to a lesser degree meta keywords. Treat your title tags and meta descriptions like ad copy and include target keywords and a strong call to action. For the record, meta descriptions and title tags are the "ad copy" that displays for your website in the SERPs when users run a search query and can be the difference in whether or not a user chooses to click on your site.
Making Your Website Easy to Navigate
Organizing your website to be user-friendly and search engine-friendly is another important part of ethical SEO. To do this, you should map out your pages ahead of time and create a logical hierarchy, grouping pages in a tree with home page first, followed by top level category pages, then leading down to more specific tertiary product pages as drop downs in the sub navigation. This logical formatting makes is easy for both users and search engine spiders to navigate your site and discover information.
When in Doubt, Play it Safe
White Hat SEO practices produce effective, ongoing and principled enhancements to your website and are always good business practice. Unethical SEO practices may deliver quick results, but the results are short-lived. Plus, getting on Google's bad side is the equivalent of a death sentence for most websites. By following ethical search marketing practices, you'll stay in Google's good graces.

White Hat SEO For Lasting Results
White Hat SEO is optimizing your web pages in an ethical way so that they rank better in the search engines.
Black Hat SEO is using tricky and unethical practices to try and get higher rankings.
The search engine understandably doesn't like Black Hat techniques. You may wonder what these comprise of.
Here are some Black Hat techniques that you should avoid if you value your rankings:
Cloaking: This is a technique that displays different content to the search engine and the visitors. This way they can add many keywords to what the search engines see. This may be unreadable to humans. Then the humans are fed another page design for them.
Duplicate Content: Some sites will use duplicated content which is frankly spammed. This could be duplicate content on the same site or content that was copied from another site. If you abuse this technique than you could be banned from some search engines.
Irrelevant keywords: in the meta tags If you add keywords in the Meta tags that aren't actually on the web page, then this is considered spamming. If you want your rankings lowered then that's the way to do it.
Linking to Bad Neighborhoods: Make sure you only link to Good Neighborhoods. Don't link to sites that spam or use any type of Black Hat SEO. That will surely backfire on you.
Hidden Text: If you try to add hidden text by making the text color the same as, or close to the background, then that's Black Hat SEO and you could very easily be removed from the search engines. This also goes for very tiny text. If your visitors can't read it easily, then it better not be there!
More than one Title: Just like keyword stuffing, don't do it. You should only have one title tag per page. Be careful, sometimes you can do this accidentally. Double check to make sure there's only one title tag.
Sometimes Black Hat can deliver fast results, but they don't last long. Eventually your rankings will drop way down or you could be banned from the search engines.
You can get great, long-lasting results from White Hat SEO. So don't fool with the latter.
SEO is not spam unless you abuse it. Just use common sense. Write good content with your visitors in mind. Don't try to trick them or the search engines.
White Hat SEO evolves writing good quality content. Don't try to use spammy tricks. Deliver great content to your visitors and the search engines. Don't hide text, or stuff Meta tags with keywords that shouldn't be there. Make sure your title tag and other Meta tags reflect your page.
Just don't do anything that you feel uncomfortable about. Double check your content and Meta tags for errors. Use only White Hat SEO techniques that are lasting and honorable.
Using White Hat SEO will take you to the top of the rankings, while the Black Hat abusers will eventually fall right off the web.

First of all let's clarify what is white hat SEO? It is a type of search engine optimization. In this search marketing concept white is good and black is bad. In other words white is rule abiding and black is rule breaking.

White Hat SEO Techniques That You Must Use With Caution Because Of Their High Potential for Abuse
These are common white hat SEO techniques that have a high potential for abuse. So make sure that when you are employing these techniques, you do it in a proper manner otherwise, these will already be considered black hat.
1. Inclusion of keywords in the title tag and in your website's header tags
, ,
2. Inclusion of keywords in the title attributes and alt attributes of images
3. Inclusion of keywords in the content and simultaneously highlighting them with bold or italic tags.
When you are using the techniques mentioned above, always be cautious and less aggressive because of the reasons in the proceeding paragraphs.
For the title tag, as the name suggests, must contain the title of your article. Typically, it is the same as the one you put on top and enclosed with
and tags. You may also write an alternative title for the content. This alternative title must contain your target keywords or keywords relevant to your content but are not captured by the original title. Basically, your content has two separate titles: for the title tag and the second one for your header tag.
Keep in mind that both of these titles must be simple and short. These types of titles are coherent, making it easier for the human visitors to read and understand.
Always avoid writing spammy titles. For example: "Keyword 1, key phrase 2, Keyword 3".
Keep in mind that search engine optimization techniques that were recommended by Google and other search engines must be ethical and not deceptive in any way. You may tweak the content and structure of your site, but never in an aggressive and deceptive manner.
To make each of your websites search engine-friendly, the two most significant variables that can tweak are your sites' content and structure.
When you configure or tweak your website's title and header tags, keep in mind that moderation is always needed. Again, make it coherent by utilizing short and simple titles rather than stuffing it with keywords as this is already deemed by the search engines as spamdexing (spamming).
Spamming must not be applied on your website's content. Inject keywords in a natural way and you will benefit from this in the long run. You may highlight your keywords by making them bold or italicized to fully emphasize their relevance to your site. However, never abuse this by making all your keywords, entire content even, bold or italicized. Otherwise, the search engines will grant you with the appropriate sanctions.
