Search Engine Optimization - SEO Basics

In order to make use of SEO, you need to understand it better. And in order to do that, you need to know a few basic terms commonly used in SEO.

Search engines - a program designed to search for information on the World Wide Web

World Wide Web - an application running on the internet which consists of interconnected documents and other information resources

Internet - a series of interconnected computer networks that contains the World Wide Web

Confusing? To simplify, a group of computers connected to each other comprises a computer network. These computer networks when connected globally, becomes the internet. The World Wide Web on the other hand is the application running on these interconnected computer networks. Contained on this application is a vast resource of documents and information. Because of the huge amount of information contained in the web, search engines were created to make searching and retrieving for information easier.

But how do search engines actually work? How can it retrieve specific information from a resource as vast the World Wide Web, estimated to contain 21.28 billion pages as of this writing?

To understand better, we need to know the following:

Web Crawling - web crawling is done by a computer program called a web crawler which goes through the World Wide Web methodically and automatically. Other names given to web crawlers are: spiders, robots (bots), automatic indexers, ants, and worms. Think of web crawling as systematically reading through everything stored in the web.

Indexing - once a page in the web is crawled by spiders, it will be indexed and data collected and parsed from that page is stored in an index database.

Search Query - this is what users enter into search engines' search box to search for certain information

Search engines typically work in this manner. The World Wide Web is crawled, indexed, and the data collected stored in a database. Then, when users enter a query into the search engine, the engine would search its index for web pages that best matches the search criteria provided by the user. It then provides a listing of these matches, known as the search results. Search results provided contain a short summary of the page, the document's title, and some part of the document's text.

A search engine's reliability and authority depends on its ability to give the user results which is relevant to the user's search or query. A business' online visibility and profitability on the other hand depends on ranking high on search results. SEO works on both ends of the field. Making web pages appear on relevant searches, and making those web pages rank high in search engines. Search engines rank web pages differently, varying from one engine to another. While all search engines' algorithms are kept secret (to curb attempts to manipulate it), there are some standards all search engines stick to when ranking web pages according to its relevance on a given topic, keyword, or search query.

The role of SEO in increasing online profits

As mentioned in the first article, SEO does and is capable of increasing online profits. SEO, when used correctly, can and will bring more traffic to a website. As discussed earlier, SEO is just another form of advertising, albeit one that isn't intrusive, and works in reverse of most targeted advertising. Since SEO is just another form of advertising, it will of course net results that all advertising gives; which is to bring in more customers or potential customers.

While an increase in traffic means the consuming public is now aware of your site's existence, that doesn't automatically translate into immediate profit. Remember that hooking audiences in is just part of the sales process. You still need to convert those visitors into paying customers or consumers of your product or services. However, as a rule of thumb, attracting more visitors to your website will of course mean a larger number of possible customers. And this is exactly the role that SEO performs - to bring more traffic to your site.

Starting SEO from scratch

To start with your website's optimization, you first need to identify the most common keywords being used by searchers to look for products and services related to your business.

For example, as a furniture seller, you will need to identify what keywords searchers use to look for products and services related to furniture. A search in Google will turn up the following keywords most commonly used for searches with the word "furniture."

bedroom furniture, home furniture, modern furniture, office furniture, furniture design wood furniture, indian furniture, ikea.

A search in Yahoo on the other hand will turn up the following keywords:

ashley furniture, furniture stores, value city furniture, office furniture, ikea furniture, bedroom furniture, patio furniture, thomasville furniture, wickes furniture, bassett furniture.

Now, let's say your store's name is Furniture World and your website address: furnitureworld.com

In addition to conducting keyword research for the word "furniture," you will also have to conduct a separate keyword research for the words "furniture world" as well as the derivation furnitureworld. Also, in order to make your website copy rank higher in search engines and also be more readable for visitors, you will want to conduct keyword research on words related or similar to "furniture." A look into a thesaurus will net you these words as synonyms to the word "furniture."

appliance, bed, bookcase, cabinet, chair, chest, couch, counter, cupboard, desk, dresser, equipment, furnishing, sofa, stool, table, wardrobe

So, aside from your website copy containing keywords or key phrases with the word "furniture," you will also need to insert an occasional synonym for furniture. This is to avoid keyword stuffing, which as will be mentioned later on, is heavily frowned upon by most search engine algorithms, and will most likely result in your website getting banned or being stricken from a search engine's index.

Once you have determined which exact keywords and phrases are heavily used for "furniture" searches, you can start altering your website copy so that it contains those keywords or key phrases you have identified.

All About SEO Secrets for Best SEO Google Site Optimization

When it comes to learning about SEO, a secret can be something intentionally kept classified. Yet, some secrets comprise things which you only learn by surprise. Further, valuable information remains secretive when you simply have not yet accessed the correct channels.

Whether this remains a case of intentional hush-hush or merely circumstantial mystery, the bottom line is that there are numerous things you may not already know about site-optimization.

The "gurus" continue to tell you that you can make money online in thousands of ways. Yet, your true-life experience probably sings a slightly different tune.

Search engine optimization reflects a highly technical matter with about a gazillion factors which also affect your online outcome. Website or page promotional systems need to implement approximately 40 or more pertinent tweaks in order to surpass today's fierce competition for keyword phrases.

In more about SEO developments, updates by Google plus the recent changes to the Panda system have left even some of the more solid online entrepreneurs with additional SEO work to complete. Yet, even without such additional adversity, the goal to establish your particular pages in the top 10 Google listings reflects a monumental task.

Consider this. It is not so much about merely having your page appear on the leading search engine listings, but your content, message, and visual appearance much exist in a way which captures the hearts and minds of viewers.

This latter set of circumstances provides likely grounds for the failure of thousands of online businesses. There are factors not to be taken lightly, and the list is HUGE.

For example:

-- Is mutual or two-way linking still worth its salt in back linking strategy?

-- How do you avoid basic back link blunders without specialized SEO education or expert guidance?

-- What is the true essence of link wheels and how can you maximize their potential powers?

Nearly everything plus almost ANYTHING you can learn about SEO principles can work to your advantage. The average online marketing professional or website owner may try to sidestep the "little" things which comprise website search engine analysis.

However, to avoid the acquisition of top-notch education in regard to site optimization can be your biggest mistake. SEO tips can come to you in almost all shapes and sizes; thus, it is often hard to know which of these seemingly small issues can make or break your Internet income generation efforts.

A great suggestion is to practice safety first. Yet, in this line of work (that is, as an online entrepreneur), the type of security deemed to be of utmost importance remains a rather complex matter.

For instance, your best SEO mix should be one which incorporates:

-- An extremely short, keyword-rich headline tag which varies appropriately for each page of your site...

-- The top FIVE Google-verified keyword phrases for your niche which ALSO demonstrate high-buyer interest...

-- Beautifully executed examples of page content properly laden with semantic phrases plus sequentially relevant heading tags.

Now, about SEO ongoing developments, there is a new informational source currently available which elaborates upon "inside" details for you with easy-to-read, plus highly helpful assistance.

Ethics, Best Practices, and SEO - A Crisis in the Profession

There has been much debate recently on the practice of ethical Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The recent removal of a high profile SEO company from the Google results has plunged the industry into yet another debate on what is ethical and what is not in our profession.

I have been involved in the SEO industry for a few years now and the mention of the word ethics and best practices in what is still an unregulated industry creates a level of confusion the likes of which I have not observed in any other industry. Why does this reluctance to discuss ethics and best practices exist? After all, we call ourselves professionals and as professionals we should strive to be part of an industry which stands for best practices and quality of service.

The confusion seems to come from the way that search engines rank sites. Each search engine has an algorithm which is a complex method of giving a value to a site which will ensure that it is returned in the search results when a relevant keyword is typed into a search engine. These algorithms are kept secret by the search engines for obvious reasons. The SEO industry is highly focused on analyzing these algorithms and using any knowledge gained to modify and rank websites. Ask any two SEO's what they consider to be ethical in their pursuit of top results and you will most likely get two very different answers. Hence, the lack of agreement on what is ethical and what is not.

So where do we start? Our commitment must always start with the client and our responsibilities to them. An ethical company will always demonstrate loyalty and respect to their client. This is true whether they are an SEO, a doctor or an accountant.

Having sound business practices and a professional approach to all that you do then we can move onto the 'search engine guidelines.' All the major search engines and directories publish their own guidelines of use for webmasters. This should be the minimum that any SEO practitioner complies with when working on a client's site. Search engines have a right to protect the integrity of their results and the SEO practitioners should respect those guidelines.

The confusion seems to arrive with the interpretation of the guidelines. One SEO will interpret the rules to mean one thing and another SEO will see it as completely different. The stakes are high and a top ranking in Google for your site is powerful branding and can lead to a major upswing in your business.

SEO practitioners have been classified as 'whitehat,' and 'blackhat.' Whitehat practitioners are the ones that try to stick to search engine guidelines while blackhat operate using more questionable techniques and view the search engines as the 'enemy.' Unfortunately blackhat techniques can sometimes adversely affect the sites ranking and worse, get their client's sites banned.

Blackhats traditionally play to the emotional needs of their clients and often convince them to part with their money without giving clear and specific information on the changes they will make to their sites. If a client is fully aware of the risks and is prepared to buy into short term gain then that is their choice. However, many Blackhat SEO's do not disclose their tactics. Would you hire a CPA who submits your tax return including questionable practices and breaking all the IRS rules? You are the one who will get audited, prosecuted and have to pay huge fines.

Blackhat techniques are just plain bad business practice. They also do the search engines and the search users a huge disservice by contributing to poor quality of results. This adds nothing to the end user experience.

The search engines say that any type of manipulation to get a site ranked is a threat against them and the relevancy of their results. Whitehat practitioners will say that they are not manipulating sites but rather fixing search engine obstacles within a web site. The need for their services is great as many web site designers do not know how to integrate search engine friendly designs.

Last year a prospective customer contacted me after being burned by a "rogue" SEO company who got their site (and others) banned from Google for spam tactics. A few weeks later they were contacted by the same "rogue" SEO company under a new name. Perhaps naively she almost fell for it again. She reasoned that if they had been banned once they would not do anything wrong again! This demonstrates the lack of knowledge that consumers have regarding our industry. They don't know the difference between good and bad SEO. People are being taken advantage of because of their lack of knowledge.

No matter what techniques your SEO uses; 'ethical' , 'whitehat' ,'blackhat' none at all it all boils down to one thing. Doing right by the client? Ethics is often viewed by many in the industry as hype.

I think the focus should be on serving users as opposed to manipulating the search engines. SEO's who concentrate of making the sites the best that they can be for the end user will create a much better longer term affect. The SEOs who chase algorithms and try to game the search engines get burned when there is an algorithm change. Following search engine updates involving an algorithm shift, the industry message boards abound with posts along the lines of "I hate Google, they have killed my site" If these posters had spent more time improving their site for their clients, and the search users, the algorithm updates would be much less stressful for them.

At this time there is no initiative within the industry to create a trade body which sets a code of best practices. It is down to the consumer to practice "buyer beware" and ensure that they practice due diligence in selecting an SEO. They need to use even more caution than they would use to select any other vendor. I also believe the industry has a responsibility to provide education and resources for consumers and help de-mystify the profession.

Great SEO companies share their knowledge willingly. They hide nothing to either clients or search engines. They know that they have a specialized skill and are proud of what they do. They get their results through hard work and perseverance. They also know that to do the job properly takes a lot of time. This is something which most business owners feel they do not have. They are confident that when it comes to hiring a professional, their honest and open approach to their trade will be acknowledged by organizations who only want to work with the best.

The following are some golden rules I have written on choosing an SEO. If the consumer sticks to these rules then they should avoid the practitioners in our industry who give the rest of us a bad name.

o Only work with a company that follows search engine guidelines. (If I could only make one recommendation this would be it). The three main search engines are Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Look on their sites for their webmaster guidelines.

o Only work with a company that documents the SEO process they will use to rank your site

o Only work with a company that provides a written contract outlining their process and their costs

o Get at least four proposals for your site and compare services before you make a decision

o Do not work with a company that offers guarantees of top rankings. Nobody can offer these types of guarantees.

o Do not lock yourself into a contract you cannot get out of if you are not getting results

o Ask for references and follow up with them. If you still have any doubts ask for more. Ensure that references check out. Check that the suggested site is real and that the contact details given check out against the contact details on the site.

o Do not allow any work to be carried out on your site without your approval.

o Do not give the SEO carte blanche to do as they will with your site. It is your site not theirs. It is your responsibility to ensure that the SEO does not apply any techniques that would result in getting your site banned.

o Check the companies BBB (Better Business Bureau) report. Check for membership of any other established trade bodies such as the AMA (American Marketing Association) Many companies claim that they are more reputable because they are part of SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization.) However this is not the case. All that is required to be a member of SEMPO is a $299 annual subscription.

o Do not work with a company that engages in site wide link exchanges. Question their linking methods. Ensure that they only have a policy of linking with on-topic sites. Remember, your site is built for users not for search engines. If your site is about computers and your link to a site that sells children's toys how useful do you think that link will be for your visitors.

o Ask other companies doing well on the Internet who they use for SEO. Always ask about the quality of customer service that is offered. It is not much use having a great SEO if you can never get hold of them.

o If it sounds too good to be true. IT IS!!!

In conclusion the SEO industry is a dynamic growing industry. This rapid growth has created some challenges for the industry. One of these challenges is the perception that outsiders have of SEO practitioners being unethical. To counteract this many SEOs are now promoting themselves as 'ethical SEO.' However, as the industry is unregulated it is up to the consumer of the service to become informed and exercise caution when selecting a SEO vendor. As the demand for SEO continues to grow the number of unethical practitioners calling themselves SEOs will also grow. To protect yourself, take the vendor selection process seriously. Look for vendors who are willing to share knowledge and partner with you to provide the best possible outcome for you business.

SEO - Make Your Website Google Friendly

The exact workings of Google computer programs are kept secret for obvious reasons but basically Google has downloaded the entire internet onto its computers and has indexed and arranged all that information so that it can easily find what you need when you want it.

Now with regard to your SEO what you need to bear in mind is that you need to make it as easy as possible for Google to find your web pages when someone is looking for information you have.

As Google wants to give the best service to its users it only wants to offer relevant search results so you have to make sure every part of your website is relevant to the keywords you want to target.

To make it really clear I like to think of it as labelling, if you label various different parts of your website with your target keywords, Google can easily see that your website is all about a specific subject, and when someone searches for what you offer Google will see your labels and put you right up there with other website that have similar labels on their website.

If think about when you are in a Library, you usually go to a particular section in the Library and start looking at the spines of the books to see if anything looks relevant, the next thing you do it look through the contents of a few books to really get a feel for what is on offer. If you can instantly see what you are after you will investigate further.

So, to make Googles job easier, label all the elements of your web pages with your target keywords and Google will start including your website in its search results.

How to Improve SEO Results on Insurance Related Web Sites

I am just stating a fact that even my own insurance broker related to me. By it's very nature, "insurance" is kind of a boring topic with not a lot of emotional appeal, but it's up to us, the search engine marketer to change that.

It's up to us to find ways to make the topic appeal.

It really does NOT have to be boring at all!

What works well for Insurance sites?

Here are just a few suggestions to get started.

The ideal approach is to create an informational site which is "loaded" with quality information related to your target audience. If it is "farm Insurance" you'll approach it with content of interest (I mean of real interest) to farmers. For "home insurance" you want to write content for the home owner. For "auto insurance", you want an audience who might be interested in getting an insurance quote but they must be, vehicle owners first.

The "Informational Approach" is a great place to start.

Create a site filled with quality informational content.

Consider creating:

* free feature articles

* advice columns

* free tips

* news columns

* humor content

* some tutorials or "how to" type features that deliver plenty of value.

Tread very lightly on the selling angle....and deliver lots of useful free advice. One of the reasons this approach works so well is because you know that most people love to use the Internet for gathering facts, research and advice.

Depending on who your client is, you may want to build content that will start with their own general theme but then expand on it. For the sake of an example, let's work with auto insurance. One likely objective, might be to increase traffic to a site that is meant to generate leads or perhaps the visitor is supposed to fill in a form to get an insurance quote. With this approach you want to make this the smallest and most inconspicuous element.

Resist the urge to promote it the same as 99% of the competing sites do.

For Auto Insurance - Who's the target audience?

We are trying to attract a target audience that "owns an automobile" or someone who "drives a vehicle" and therefore, they may need to insure it. What type of articles and content might be appropriate here? Often at best, all you'll find are insurance sites that are those relating information "about their business", or the "history of their business" or perhaps a page spouting some sales pitch about how they "guarantee the best rates." These will not generally serve your target audiences interests. The visitor needs to find content on the site that is interesting, useful and appealing to them.

1. So start by creating an idea list of topics that might attract a vehicle owner.

Create your own list and make it unique. Remember that you are not just bound to promote "insurance" as a subject. Your ideal audience is simply someone who owns a car and may need insurance. Furthermore, you may need to optimize regionally if your client is only interested in business from the local state or province.

Write articles and choose topics based on "high interest" content.

Here are a few thoughts:

* How about articles on topics like auto detailing

* How to do various types of body work

* Tips on safe driving

* Tips on buying a car

* Advice on selling a car

* How to save money by tuning up your own car

* Price or feature comparisons on new cars

* How about expanding on the safety theme and include info for campers or house trailers

* How about offering commentary on "local news" related issues for driving

* Why not create a few articles on the topic of "classic or show cars?"

* Create an article offering advice on how to handle yourself if involved in a car accident

* How about safety checklists

* Free tips on preventing car theft

* Advice on winter driving

* Give it some thought, there are plenty of ideas

Thinking outside the box, also work to identify other markets beside these that could also mean additional business for the client?

How about "motorcycle insurance" or "truck insurance" or "marine insurance?"

Do you deal in "snowmobile insurance"?

Each of these additional suggestions provides a wealth of many possible topics that you could build volumes of free but useful quality content on.

Wordtracker Research:

How do your chosen topics compare with real-time demand?

As usual, work to identify high performance topics using Wordtracker. It is extremely important to keep your target audience in mind for each article. Whether we are trying to attract fleet operators, truck drivers, purchaser of a new vehicle, parents of teenage drivers, motorcyclists, or whoever.....we really want to fine tune our optimization for the right audience.

If you need some creative insight on researching your real-time audience behavior within Wordtracker, be sure to see my short e-guide called Wordtracker Magic where I reveal my favorite methods for tapping into the very best "windows of opportunity" in mere seconds, instead of spending hundreds of hours of doing research. The techniques here are often eye-openers for those who are looking for original ideas to attract their ideal target audience.

2. Next build the site with easy access to ALL articles right from the front or home page.

Avoid building complicated tables and make sure each page can be easily crawled by search engine robots.

Ideally, look for topics that may be perfect to build several similarly themed pages around. Let's say, that using Wordtracker, you had found that there was a real high demand for the topic of "fender repairs and paint touch up".

Note: The point is, you find one popular topic that several high demand keyword phrases may also relate to. In the example above, if you found that "fender repairs" was popular, you might break it down as follows:

Example List:

* Buick fender repairs

* Oldsmobile fender repair

* Repairing your Toyota fender

* body work for Jeeps

* repair fender damage on your vehicle

* fender repair and matching paint

* Pontiac fender repairs

* Volkswagen fender repair

* body work for Chevrolet

* repair your Camaro's fender

Assuming that "fender repair" and "body work" were in high demand, each of these phrases could be optimized for in a series of different articles. Each article could be a do-it-yourself guide on fender repair for each specific type of vehicle. Each page is therefore going to have different and original content.

Warning: Do not just copy large bodies of text or content and try to re-use it on different pages.

Search engine love fresh, original content that is useful reading.

You will get far better results by creating all original content. Focus on creating truly valuable articles and content that are worthy and useful to the reader. Avoid the danger of duplication - do not create content which is "too similar" and may get you penalized. Your goal is to create lots of useful content that you can be proud of, which in turn will attract your ideal target audience in to your site. There is no penalty for creating quality informational content that delivers value and is also truly relevant for a researched keyword phrase.

3. Search engines love original, useful content - yet also it creates new gateways into your Web site too!

In the bulleted example list above, you could create 10 "tutorial" gateway information pages which act first (by being found to rank high for a popular search term on major search engines) and secondly, (each page is really loaded with useful tutorial content which in itself counts as quality advice) and thirdly, you can then carefully build in click-able text links that will allow your new visitor traffic the option of traveling throughout the site.

Also note that if your true objective is to gather insurance leads or auto insurance quotes, you might try using simple one liner text ads. These work quite well if you come up with simple but appealing copy. The example to the below is an ad idea which is not really a link, but gives you the general idea.

Are You Paying Too Much For Car Insurance?

Click Here to find out INSTANTLY

In Summary:

Emphasis in this one technique is simply to offer really good or useful content. The do-it -yourself car care audience will probably own a car or at least wonder if they indeed have the best insurance rate. Everyone likes the idea of being able to obtain an "instant quote." The key is always to focus on what the target audience really wants, instead of rendering dry, boring old "mission statements" or content that is written strictly from a sales perspective.

One of the Internet's best kept secrets is how to research "behaviors" instead of keywords. Do a search on Google for the e-guide Wordtracker Magic. It's free right now.

In conducting your Wordtracker research, be certain to investigate and identify as many strategies as possible. All you really need, in order to get good to "exceptional results" is just one really good high demand topic, with a number of high KEI keyword phrases related to that same topic or theme. Understand what your ideal target audience is really searching for and then give them what it is that they want, right up front.

The Local monthly searches column shows how many times that keyword is being typed in the Google search engine on a monthly basis in your Demographic

The Secret to choosing the correct keywords are the ones that have low to medium competition with high local or global searches, you can never predict what people are typing in to find the different types of products and services that exist on the internet, which is why this tool is great. I cannot stress enough how important Search engine promotion is to a website. It can very well be the "make or break" aspect of a website and/or a company. The time you invest in keyword research and SEO investment needed for your website's search engine promotion can increase your business by 100%.

One Way Link Building - Stop Doing It Wrong - Free Secret Steps For Top Rankings

Free One Way Link Building Secrets (Inbound)

You can have the best looking site on the Internet, but that doesn't mean you will get customers.

If you are a business person who has a web site on the world wide web, then you need to get serious about link building.

What IS link building?

I can tell you right now, it's not a place you find on the web where you join a link exchange program to get some links to your web site. I made that mistake already. You don't have to.

It's not a web site on the Internet you find and hit "submit link" and think your rankings will get you on the first page of Google and thousands of people will come flocking to your site because they can finally find you.

And it's definitely not an automated link exchange program you found to get you automatic links while you sleep.

What about a free link exchange? Don't do it if it's an FFA (free for all) web site. Period. Just do not submit your web site link there, ever.

So what CAN you do to get started on some serious link building techniques that will get you listed on the first page of Google?

1 - Do your homework.

2 - Find out what keywords people are actually typing into the search engines, not which ones you "think" you want to rank for that people "might" be typing into a Google or Yahoo search engine box.

4 - Check your competition's web sites. Type a keyword you want to rank for on Google, then look at the first two organic (free) web sites' source code. What keywords are in their title tag? Grab them. Start making a list on a piece of paper of these keywords.

5 - Repeat step 4 for any keywords you've researched that actually GET searches, then, and only then, can you start some serious, one way link building efforts.

6 - There is quite a bit more research I can tell you to implement regarding your competition, and you can find out how many links you will need to beat your competition, but that will have to be for another day. You're already 99 per cent ahead of the game with the steps I've outlined for you in this free link building article.

7 - Start writing articles. Not just any articles, either. Make sure the title of your articles start with one of the keywords you just spent time reasearching. If you want to rank for SEO Services, then make sure your article title is something like, SEO Services for Less. Always try and make the first words in your title tag and article titles your primary keywords. The search engines read from left to right.

8 - Place the primary keywords in the first sentence or paragraph of your article, then again in the last sentence or paragraph of your article.

9 - Make sure you place other secondary keywords you have researched that are in direct relation and highly relevant to your article and product--place these secondary keywords throughout your article. Make sure they flow for the reader. It must make sense.

10 - Once you have an article with at least 500, preferable 750, words, post it on article directory site in the related category to your product or service. Make sure you choose an article directory site that lets you make your primary keyword an anchor text link. If they only let you place your web site in the article, or only under the author's information, I wouldn't waste my time submitting my unique, original article on their site. (Do not submit the article on more than one article directory site.)

11 - You are trying to get one way links with anchor text primary keywords to your relevant landing page.

12 - Do not send every article to your home page. Send it to an article or page you have written that has the article and title keywords in the URL. This will then be highly relevant anchor text link, and you will rank easier for that keyword.

13 - We all want to outsource because it saves us money. But you will get seriously burned if you hire someone who has no idea how to get you one way link building correctly. Hire an extreme SEO expert. Everyone says they are an expert though. It takes more effort for an SEO professional to undo the damage done by uneducated link builders all over the Internet who seriously do not have a clue how to optimize for true, one way link building.

Now that I have explained this highly kept secret that I personally spent thousands of dollars to learn, I would really appreciate it if you would put a link of my site on your site, if you can. Or, perhaps you can grab my RSS feed http://www.adwordsandseoservices.com/rss2.aspx and share my new articles with others. Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask for help, because I enjoy helping others, too. Keep up on one way link building, because it is an ongoing effort. Your competition will keep adding more links for your primary keywords, so you have to keep building yours to get higher search engine rankings, too.

Outsourcing SEO Sevices

Anyone that hasn't heard of outsourcing by now must be either hiding in a cave or not working in the service industry. Call Centers are front and center, but it seems outsourcing is spreading to every nook and cranny of the economy. On a recent trip to Manila in the Philippines, a job fair was held for 65,000 vacancies in Call Centers. Other statistics are just as shocking. India is set to emerge as a $17 billion knowledge outsourcing destination by 2010, states a new industry study. (Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) May 2005) Three-quarters of U.S. companies outsourced some or all of their information technology activities in 2004, and that percentage is likely to increase this year according to Global Outsourcing Report March 2005.

Outsourcing is seductive with skilled and educated native English speaking labor available for $4 or $5 per hour. Many newcomers to outsourcing or contracting out have the naive idea they can just 'throw it over the fence for $4 an hour' and are predictably disappointed. Indeed, the big boys are having difficulty as well. In a recent study, 'Calling a Change in the Outsourcing Mode' surveying 25 large organizations with a combined $50 billion in outsourcing contracts found that 70% a more cautious approach. One in four companies has brought outsourced functions back in-house and nearly half have failed to see the cost savings they anticipated as a result of outsourcing."

Outsourcing, using freelancers and contracting out is still a very viable strategy that can reduce costs and increase productivity substantially. It just isn't quite as easy as 'throwing it over the fence!'

Outsourcing SEO?

In general, the more important the service is to your business, the better to have it in-house. If SEO/SEM is mission critical to your business and you already have qualified people on staff, outsourcing would be a mistake. If you don't have SEO trained staff, developing SEO capability from scratch is a long road. The learning curve is steep, and like most skills, the very competent people are the experienced ones, who have been doing it for years. You might want to hire an experienced person to work for your company and have them train others as part of their job.

This can be difficult as well, because generally people hired into this kind of situation will keep the secrets to themselves. In addition to the perennial problem of SEO -- the really good ones make too much money on their own so keeping really good people is almost impossible.

There is another other option, though -- Outtask rather than Outsource.

Outsourcing vs. Outtasking

Outtasking is where certain tasks are contracted out and the main function is kept in-house. This option, with effective management, can give the best of both worlds. Examples of tasks that can be Outtasked are Link Campaigns, Article Writing, Directory Submissions and Article Submissions.

Tips for Managing Outsourcing Partners

- Develop relationships. Pay a fair amount or on the high side. Use the same person. Develop and train them.

- Spell out what you want. The more detail and the more specifics you can give a freelancer of what you want, the better the finished product will be. Freelancers have no imagination and now way of knowing what you want. They are in a different country and culture -- all they have to go on is what you tell them.

- Keep in touch. Ask for progress reports and updates. Unless you have worked with someone and then hired them full-time, freelancers are juggling different contracts. Keeping in touch keeps your contract at the top.

- Move forward in stages. First, do contracts. Then, all going well, regular contracts. Next part-time. Finally, after you have developed a relationship, offer full time.

- Tell them what you want and offer to pay a slightly higher fee in order for them to do it. Writing articles especially, is difficult to get exactly what you want in exactly 500 words. And if it's a longer, more in-depth article, that's a bonus and more likely to be syndicated.

- If you are contracting for articles, you have to specify in advance that they will be original. And when you receive the completed work, check for plagiarism.

Popular Misconceptions

The more time YOU put into it, the better the project will be. Outsourcing doesn't mean you just give the whole thing to someone else in the Philippines or in India. The more time you spend managing the project the better the result.

When I contract for 10 articles, I spell out exactly what I want including, target audience, education level, tone, type (information or how to) keywords, suggested title and length. When I get them back I read them over carefully and edit them. If I don't like them, I ask for a re-write. Overall, it is cost effective, but it still takes time.

Outsourcing or Outtasking is still work. It is just not the same kind of work. Do it properly and you learn a valuable skill that can reduce your costs substantially, and increase productivity.

In case you are still wondering what is the significance of keyword anchor text existing SIMULTANEOUSLY in BOTH your competitor's title pages plus the text on the actual document presented, here is what keyword research SEO tools implementation can additionally reveal.

Anchor and title text details display your chances of appearing on page ONE of Google search results. Their numbers indicate a CURRENT reflection of how many sites you have to "beat" in order to occupy that specific position today.

Granted, basically ALL of your keyword researcher statistics have bearing and importance regarding the OVERALL picture of your key-phrase family campaign. However, the combined "title/anchor" data remains nearly the ONLY one which genuinely reflects REAL-LIFE competitive opportunity or likelihood of online search keyword analysis success.

How to Choose the SEO Company That Is Right for You

SEO is the acronym for search engine optimization. It is the most widely used technique for promoting Internet marketing and has been around for more than a decade.

How does SEO work?

Basically, SEO works by modifying a website using certain methods and techniques for the purpose of increasing the traffic to the site. The volume of traffic is essentially dependent on the ranking given to the web site by the search engines. Each search engine employs its own formulae or algorithms to determine the rating of a particular site. These algorithms are kept as closely guarded secrets and are not made known to the outside public.

Some of the factors which the search engines take into consideration are:

1. Relevancy -- the nearest match to the search items

2. Popularity -- the number of visits or hits to the site

3. Site age -- the older the site the higher the value

4. Contents -- the usefulness of the information

5. Keywords -- number and frequency of appearance

These are the important items; there are other factors like Meta tags, etc. which are also used for determining the rating of the website.

The weightage given to each of these factors is not the same but varies from item to item and is again kept as a trade secret.

The search engines do not directly search the sites in the World Wide Web. The actual searching is done by robot programs which are called "spiders". The spiders "crawl" the sites and prepare a data base for the search engines for working out the rankings and for indexing the sites.

Search engines help to generate traffic to the website and to maintain it at a sustainable level. A well organized and relatively more informative site will naturally have greater attraction for the targeted audience and result in increased turnover and profitability of the online business.

Choosing the right SEO Company:

Even if a company has the requisite expertise, it is will be burdensome for it to deal with SEO by its own in-house staff, as it involves a lot of detailed work and will consume too much of their time. It will be wiser to outsource the work to a competent SEO company which specializes in such matters. The immediate problem will therefore be to select a suitable SEO company for this purpose. You may consider the following points when starting the selection process.

• Make a short list of potential candidates and collect full details of the companies. Verify the data given by them by direct inquiries and through the Internet.

• Get information from the companies regarding their other clients and refer to them for their impressions regarding the capabilities and past performance of the SEO companies which worked for them.

• Avoid SEO companies which tend to use black hat tactics for getting better ratings, because it will ultimately lead to being penalized by search engines.

• Hire only a company that is willing to enter into a long term contract with you because SEO is not a one-off job and needs continuous follow up.

• Don't decide only on the basis of the quotations submitted by the candidates. As neither the cheapest nor the dearest quote may be the best choice, consider all other relevant factors and make an informed selection.

• When you have found a suitable SEO company that gets the desired results, it is wise to stick with it.

The Web's Biggest and Best Kept SEO secret

Did you know there's a way to get 100s of inbound links to your site - and improve you Google ranking - for free?

Message board seeding is the technique nobody's talking about - because they don't want you to know about it!

In this article top web designer Richard Quick uncovers the secrets of this powerful technique.

What are message boards?

Message boards are websites, or sections of websites, where people go to chat, usually about a single subject. There are message boards about everything from pop stars to politics.

The way they work is simple, people write messages, or posts, which appear online. For example, they might post a question ("How do I add a link in HTML?") or an opinion ("The new Tom Cruise movie is awesome!"). Other people can then reply.

How does this help me?

The obvious way to try to increase traffic to you website might be to post to a message board promoting your site. Don't do this - ever. People treat these kind of unsolicited adverts as spam and get very angry with people who post them. You're likely to get angry emails, abusive posts on the board or even complaints to your ISP, asking for your site to be shut down.

So what can I do?

Well, while people don't like their message boards being spammed they always welcome new members. If there's a subject you're interested in or knowledgeable about then you can join a few popular message boards and join in with the discussions.

Most message boards allow their members to have a signature, with a link to your website.

How does this help me?

Message board seeding, as this technique is known, will help you in two ways. Firstly, people on the boards will come to know and trust you. Some will look at your site out of interest and next time they need a service similar to yours they may contact you.

Secondly, and much more importantly, every time you post on a message board you will be creating a link to your website. This will improve your page rank and help push you further up Google.

How to link to your site

When you link to your site, make sure the link text (or anchor text) you use contains your main keywords. If you own a Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn your link text should be Chinese restaurant Brooklyn not The Golden Lotus.

Share the love

Posting 100 messages to 1 message board won't have the same effect on your Google position as posting 10 messages on 10 different message boards.

Where to post

Make sure you choose message boards that closely match your business. If you run a golf course near Miami, you should post on message boards about Golf or Miami - not on message boards about web design or orange juice.

Home Based Business - Eleven Best Kept Secrets to Success on the Internet

Home based business secrets to success are sold everyday to unsuspecting marketers hoping to make some money on the Internet. I say unsuspecting because they believe that there is some magic formula that will turn their business into a multi million dollar success overnight. Online marketers are willing to pay big bucks for those secrets.

The Internet has been described as the new frontier for entrepreneurs. The Information Highway has mushroomed into a global network that continues to spread its reach on a daily basis. Every day thousands of people log onto the Internet for the first time. Many want to try their hand at building a business to make money online. The Internet does make it possible for anyone, regardless of experience, to make it big online.

1. Starting a home based business online is very simple. You can literally do a search on Google, Yahoo or MSN, find a business opportunity and be a business owner the same day. Finding the right company, with the right product and the best compensation plan is part of the challenge. All too often entrepreneurs look at the surface information and jump in without doing a thorough analysis of the company.

2. Affiliate business can make you rich. Everything you need to start a business online is ready to go the minute you affiliate with the company. Choose a company with product or products that you like, want to use and can be passionate about. If you are not sold on the product yourself, you will not be able to sell it to others. Every compensation plan is different. Make sure you understand what it is you will need to do to earn money.

3. Building a home based business is all about relationships. Mean what you say, say what you mean and do what you say. Honesty, integrity and commitment shine through your voice when you talk to people. Your actions or inaction will be noted by those you come into contact with. Whether an individual decides to go into business or not you want them to have a good impression of you.

4. There is no such thing as free. Everything has a cost or a consequence. Something of value is perceived to be free if what you give to get it has a lower perceived value. For example the price for a free e-book, report or tool such as an auto responder or an ad blaster, is your contact information and permission to e-mail you. Building a business for free will attract people who will return less than the perceived value of what they are getting. Think about that when you are tempted to join a free business.

5. There are costs involved to building a business. Most affiliate programs require a monthly commitment for product purchase in order to be able to earn compensation. You may also have some advertising and marketing costs. If you don't have a budget that allows you to purchase advertising, plan to work harder. Elbow grease can cut down many of your marketing costs.

6. People will do what you do. Actions speak louder than words. You can talk the talk but if you don't walk the talk it is unlikely anyone else will either. Like it or not you are the role model for the people who join you in business. They will do what you do, so if you do not like how your business is growing take a look in the mirror.

7. Turnkey business does not mean instant success Turnkey means you will have everything you need to start your business. This includes product or service, web sites, marketing tools, promotional and advertising materials. It is up to you to turn the key and start driving your business. You are responsible to put all your tools into play and to get your information onto the Internet for people to find.

8. Search Engine Optimization - SEO - gets your business noticed Search engines rule the Internet. When you are looking for anything online you go to a search engine and type in the words you believe will give you the information you want. Learn and implement SEO techniques to get your web sites to the front pages of relevant search results.

9. Keywords matterChoosing the right keywords to promote your business can make a huge difference to your visibility on the Internet. Keyword research will help you to choose words that people many people use to search for products or services similar to yours. To beat the competition you have to be consistent and persistent with your SEO strategies.

10. There is no such thing as Get Rich Quick There is no business anywhere that will build itself, someone else will build for you, or will make you rich overnight. Forget this notion, treat your business like the million dollar business it is and get out there and build it.

11. Every business needs customers Without customers you will never have a successful business. Customers purchase your product or service because they like them. They have no expectation of earning money as a result of their purchase. The more customers you have the more successful your business will be.

Home based business opportunity success secrets are really just good business sense. The real secret to success is hard work, done consistently, over a period of time. On the Internet hard work is different than in the offline world only in the sense that you can do everything from your computer keyboard. You don't need to stock shelves or sweep floors but you do need to pay attention to your marketplace and do everything better than anyone else if you want to be noticed.

Working online does not mean sitting in your living room, with your feet up, watching TV and hoping that your information is reaching multitudes of people while you relax. It is up to you to create and run your advertising campaigns, provide information and training to your prospects as well as your business partners. It is not up to someone or something else to build your business. It is up to you! There are many tools, techniques and technology available to help you.

Working with a team can greatly impact your effectiveness. A good team will be there to support you and help you every step of the way. Working with a team does not mean that everything will be done for you. It does mean that you can benefit from the skills of others and learn from people with experience that you don't have. Teams are valued resources in just about every industry. It is a proven fact that more can be accomplished with a competent team than by working alone.

Success is waiting for you to reach out and grab it. Now you know some of the most basic of secrets it is time to roll up your sleeves and start working toward success in your home based business.

Is Your Website An Asset Or A Liability for Users and SEO

Remember back in the good ol' days when having a website was something every company needed and wanted? Websites were the wave of the future, and the dream of transitioning to conducting business online filled our heads with visions of a revolution in the way commerce was conducted. With a website, a company could reach clients and interact with potential customers on a global scale. A website was indicative of a company's technological prowess, symbolic of the desire to innovate and evolve with developments in the industry.

Today, this mindset has changed drastically. We all know that we need a website, but many of us think that simply having one is enough. In fact, there is research indicating that many firms with an online presence haven't touched their websites in years. They haven't spent any time improving functionality and appearance, and they have yet to consider the basics of website usability and the inherent potential of search engine optimization (SEO). Of course, we all recognize by now that having a website is an essential business asset, if it's done correctly. It's easy to see that if your sight is an outdated eyesore, it becomes a liability that hurts you more than it helps you. Conversely, a well-designed site can make all the difference. It's the first place users go to research your products and services, making your site a lead generation and CRM tool, sometimes even a storefront.

We've all heard the adage about first impressions, and it's no secret that they're the most important factor in the way people remember their first encounter with you or with your website. On one hand, a well-designed, user-friendly website will showcase your business and your brand, impressing clients. On the other hand, an outdated and otherwise bad website can hurt you far more than it can help you in this case, as potential customers will eliminate you as a possible vendor after only interacting with your brand and substandard website for only a few minutes.

I'll utilize a real estate analogy here to expand upon this thought. You'll impress guests when they arrive at your home if its clean, well-kept, landscaped, painted, and overall welcoming. But if you arrive at a home that's dilapidated and falling apart with chipped paint and an overgrown lawn, you'll think a lot of less of whoever lives there. Are they lazy slobs? Maybe. Or maybe they just haven't had time to take care of the property. Either way, your first impression is less than positive. We all try not to "judge a book by its cover," but in an online atmosphere when that's all you've got to judge a company by, their website is their cover, the digital face they present to the world. In the information age, you can't not judge the book by its cover.

So this must leave you wondering: Is my website an asset or a liability? By answering the following questions, you can find out if it's time for an overhaul or just some simple changes. Or maybe your site doesn't need any work at all. Ready to find out?

Importance of SEO and Commonly Confused Principles

There is estimated to be over 100 billion websites on the web today. That is over 10 websites a person. That's a lot of websites and a lot of competition for a person or company trying to make it in the online game. SEO or search engine optimization is the process of improving your website so that it ranks higher in the natural search results of popular search engines. Paid ads usually cost anywhere from $.40 - 2.00 a click, where as natural search is free.

Confused about indexing? Search engines work round the clock to scan and index as many websites as they can. They go from link to link following the trail and storing basic information about each site. These search engines categorize and record keywords so that when some one searches for keywords or phrases, they have relevant content to display.

Determining the order in which each site is ranked is usually kept secret, but we do know some of the basics. Websites are ranked by the quality and content of their internal structure and by the number and quality of other websites linking back to it. We call those links backlinks because they point back to your site. SEO companies work day and night to gather or create quality backlinks so that your site is rated and ranked more favorably.

A lot of people confuse the term Page Rank with the ranking of their website when certain keywords are searched for. Please know that these are different things. Google, by far the most popular and widely used of all search engines, has coined the term PageRank and uses it to rate websites on a numeric scale. New sites will have 0 as a page rank but can quickly increase as they implement proper SEO techniques. Only the best of the best websites ever achieve a 10. It is really nothing to stress about.

Ranking for keywords is something different. This is where a new webmaster should focus. Keyword ranking is the position a site comes in, relative to all other websites, when a specific and determined keyword or phrases is searched for. For example, an SEO company would love to be the first website listed when some one searches "SEO company." It is estimated that around 50% of all searchers click the first link when doing a search, so this would mean a lot of traffic and a lot of business for the SEO company.

SEO is not a fast process, but if done right, can be incredibly rewarding. Be sure save time and to do it right from the beginning.

10 Quick Tips That Make SEO Easier to Understand

SEO is not rocket science. It is simply a way to achieve higher rankings in search engines. Anybody can type in your web address and browse your pages. But unfortunately the address of your website and what is more important the content on your pages in unknown to the world. You need to promote your site and make sure that the most important search engines will visit and index your pages. Below are listed 10 important factors and tips that will help you to understand reasons for SEO and methods used.

1. Web Search

We find things on the web by using web search. The most important search engine is Google. It is important because it is used by majority of web users and this is because it returns relevant results. Relevant results means that the first displayed result is closely related to the keyword you searched for.

2. Keywords or Search Phrases

You search the web by typing a keyword or search phrase into Google or any other search engine. Those keywords are a key factor and foundation of any SEO. All optimizations are related to keywords.

3. Search Results

After you enter the keyword and hit Enter or click on the Search button you get the first page of search results. You expect that you will get at least one web page which has what you are looking for.

4. Top Results Get Most of Clicks

Usually the first page in search results is the one which is, according to the ranking algorithm of the search engine, the most relevant page for specific search phrase. Therefore, it is natural to expect that the top result get most of the clicks. It is estimated that this position gets about 42% of all clicks which is a lot!

5. Your Page Needs To Rank On the First Page of Search Results

Because of our expectations to find searched items on the first page of results we need to make sure that also our target pages reach this first page of search results. The higher position the better. All our efforts should be focused to get on the top positions on the first page of search results.

6. Pages are Sorted According to Relevancy

What is the algorithm used for ranking and which elements are taken into account is a well kept secret. All we know is that some on-page and off-page elements contribute to the ranking.

7. You Can Emphasize Important and Relevant Keywords

To emphasize important and relevant keywords we can use some page elements which describe the content and tell to human visitors and to search engines what the page is about. This "emphasis" of specific keywords is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO.

8. On-page SEO

On-page SEO are elements on page where we describe the content of the page. Usually we put the main keyword into page title, page description, header tags and the page content should also mention it few times.

9. Off-Page SEO

Off-Page SEO means creating as many backlinks to our website as possible. Each link tells to search engines that we have something useful on the page and this increases relevancy of our page.

10. Create For Humans, Optimize For Search Engines

The best SEO approach is to create pages for human visitors and then optimize them for search engines. You should never create pages specifically for web crawlers and bots.

A typical example of a small optimized page is the http://garagedooraccessories.net/ website. Its main purpose is to present important information about garage door accessories and this is evident from many on-page elements.

For effective SEO you don't need a special team or agency. All you have to do is to create web pages for human web visitors. If the pages are clearly labeled and there are many links pointing to them search engines will find your pages and they will appear in search results. The only major factor that can affect the ranking is the competition and its strength.

SEO Forum - Benefits

I have been into SEO services for quite some time now. However Search engine optimization is such an enormous subject that you simply cannot stop learning something new about it.

This is one of the reasons why I started scourging some of the SEO forums on the internet. Maybe, it would have that one new technique that will give me that slight bit of extra traffic.

However, I came to know later than in the process of finding more about SEO; I had stumbled upon a vast knowledge database and a marketing goldmine.

Yes, that is exactly what SEO forums are. They hold tremendous potential to promote and market your website and they also are a great tool that can be used to increase the back links to your websites.

But how do you tap the potential in this goldmine? How do you get it to work for you?

Secrets unlocked

The best kept secret to getting SEO forums to work for you is that there is no secret.

You only have to select the right forums and keep posting relevant stuff in them. Unless you contribute something, you are definitely not going to get anything in return.

Apart from giving you the links and traffic, it will also enrich your knowledge and give you more information about your business.

Since there is active participation from all corners of the globe, you are bound to find and create international business relationships also from forums.

For example, I met a 19 year old guy from London who is an expert in 'Predictive analysis' and 'Business Intelligence'. I worked with him for several of my projects after that.

As you keep posting and contributing towards the forum, your status in the forum also increases and improves.

Lastly, do not forget to put your website in the signature, because that is where the traffic comes from.
