How to Start a Career in SEO Article Writing

Gone are the days when having a 9am-5pm job is the only way to make a decent living. Today, you have the option of making money at the comforts of your own home. As long as you understand SEO and as long as you have the knack for writing, you can make money while in your pajamas. That means, you'll have more time for your family and you'll have control as to when you'll work and how much work you're going to take. Sounds enticing, huh?

Here's how you can start a lucrative career in SEO article writing:

First thing that you need to do is to hone your skills. It's not enough that you have average writing, proofreading, SEO, and research skills. As you're about to go up against a lot of people (some of them have already proven track record in this field), you need to make sure that you have an edge over them. Improve your skills and get better in writing SEO articles by attending relevant seminars, by hiring personal mentors, and by practicing as often as you can.

Write and publish your own articles. Your potential buyers will most likely to ask you for sample articles. These people would like to make sure that you have the ability to write high quality articles before they'll hire you. What I suggest is that you write as many articles as possible and distribute them to popular directories. Make sure that you publish them under your real name. As you're trying to impress your prospects, it's important to make sure that your articles are all well-research, very educational, well-written, and 100% unique.

Get testimonials and feedback. Perhaps, the hardest part in starting a career in freelance writing is getting your first couple of clients. Most buyers will not do business with you unless you already have proven track record. But you can still get some to sign up to your services by charging less. You can also offer your services to your friends and family members. Then, get these people to leave compelling testimonials or feedback on your blog or website. These can surely help you get positive response from your potential clients.

Be honest. It's very easy to lie to your clients as you will not be working with them face-to-face. For example, you can tell them that you'll personally write their articles when you intend to outsource them to another writer. You can also tell them that you'll start right away when you know you have to finish another project first. The danger in lying to your customers is that this will surely backfire on you. You don't need clients leaving feedback saying that you lied to them. This will definitely discourage future clients from wanting to do business with you. So, be truthful in all your dealings. This is the best foundation of any solid working relationship.
