SEO is incredibly complicated and there are many factors that mean that a site is either successful or unsuccessful in it's attempt to rank highly on the search engines. As such there are always more things you can do to a site to improve the SEO. Here are five suggestions you may not have already considered.
'Borrow' Article Titles - This might sound cheeky, and it is, but it's also completely legitimate and a great way to get more people to your site. Essentially here you do a search for you keyword, say 'banana suppliers'. Then when you find the top result you look at the title and write one with almost the exact same heading. For example if the top article is 'Banana Suppliers in Increasing Demand Say Industry Experts' you might make your title 'Banana Suppliers Increasingly in Demand According to Industry Experts'. From here you then write an entirely unique and good article. The reason this works is that highly popular articles often get repeated viewings as visitors go back to look up facts and check details. This then in turn means that you get some instant traffic simply from people searching for that article.
Include Popular Images - Images are perhaps one of the best kept secrets to SEO success and it's relatively very easy to get a high ranking image in Google for a topic you wouldn't have otherwise. People will then view your image in its context and in doing so might be tempted to visit your site. Simply include an image in your text (ensuring that you own the rights or that it's public domain) and keep the file name something obvious and search friendly. From here you should then surround the article with text on the subject as this will come up with the search. Match the keywords and key phrases in the content to the image and ensure the page is good so that it will attract people when they glance at the page.
Break Up Your Text - By breaking down your text into shorter paragraphs you make it more user friendly for visitors and also more appealing to Google. It also means you can use lots of headers as dividers and this will have more sway with Google.
Use Synonyms - Google doesn't only look for keywords any more, but also for synonyms and other words on and around the topic too ensure that the sites that come up aren't just those that have flooded their site in keywords. Make sure then that you also actually write around the topic and you will find its more effective than just targeting a single phrase.
Make it Good - If your site is obviously just aimed at getting visitors and ranking highly in Google then it may get penalized by search engines. Even if you do 'get away' with it however, you will still risk your site losing out in future. Firstly you'll lose out because no one will ever want to come back to your site. Furthermore, already we've seen that Google look for synonyms as well as keywords and this is symptomatic of their aim to deliver quality content for those searching for it. In other words, their ability to find 'the good stuff' is only going to improve. By making your site good you are future proofing it against future iterations of their search.
